Danny Rohl warns Rangers players they must 'change the story' as he provides transfer update

Rohl provides update following 1-0 win over Ludogorets in the Europa League

Rangers boss Danny Rohl admitted the club are anticipating further outgoings before the transfer window closes following his side’s 1-0 win over Ludogorets in the Europa League on Thursday night.

Rohl watched his side record their seventh consecutive win in all competitions, and their first win of their Europa League campaign, thanks to Mohamed Diomande’s first-half strike, which handed them a narrow 1-0 win over Bulgarian outfit Ludogorets at Ibrox.

While the result had no impact on Rangers’ prospects qualifying for the knockout stages of the tournament, with Rohl’s side mathematically unable to secure even a playoff spot, he admitted he was happy to record a win in the competition - but has warned his side they must be more ruthless in order to achieve further success this season.

“The first win in Europe is good for us as it keeps the momentum,” said Rohl. “I think now, seven wins in a row which is fantastic. Also from the last nine games, six clean sheets as well, this is great. But, yeah, I also saw a lot of things to improve, and I think this is for me also the part. I will not close my eyes and say everything was nice, we know what we have to improve.

“We adjusted in the second half a little bit withy our pressing which was more more how I like. Then we created a lot of good opportunities and then we have to make it 2 or 3-0, I think we have this story very often, especially in these games. At half-time I said to them, ‘guys, this is the big difference at the moment in the league and in Europe, we have clean sheets and if we have them, we have a chance to win games’.

“It feels at the moment we can win, win, win, but it's always hard working, and it was the big message after the game. If we think on Sunday we can go with 99%, then we have not the chance. We need again 100% during the next game, and this is the crucial thing. We have to demand of ourselves high, high standards, and this means we have to deliver every three days now 100% to take wins.”

Rangers have been active in the transfer market this season, with Andreas Skov Olsen, Tuur Rommens and Tochi Chukwuani all arriving at Ibrox in the last fortnight. Rohl revealed which of the trio supporters can expect to see in Sunday’s league clash with Dundee in Govan, while he also offered an update on the rumoured departures of Kieran Dowell and Findlay Curtis. Dowell is reported to be closing in on a move to Hull City, while Kilmarnock are interested in a loan move for Curtis.

“Tuur will not be available for the weekend,” admitted Rohl. “But Tochi and Skov will be, I think this is great, this is good for us. I think we have to rotate a little bit, but I will not rotate too much, because at the moment there is momentum in the group, some players they really stepped up, some players they try a lot, but it's good to have a different bench. We need this competition.

“For Findlay it's also about development in the next months. We have to make sure that he gets a lot of game-time, I think he performed well against Annan, he played winger, then left full-back. Today he comes on, has his moments. I had a conversation with him this week. It’s not easy for a young man to have a little bit of hype around him, and then to be patient and you have to deliver.

“But this is also a process when you're growing, from a young player to experience his moments. At the moment he is a player for us, let's see what we will do.

“I think Kieran is nearly done with Hull, and maybe then some players will follow this way as well out, because in three weeks we will have just a lot of normal weeks, and if the squad is too big then it's not healthy for the group. We need 20-22 players, they are really hungry and they want to be part of our journey, and for this we will try to make the best decisions in the next couple of days.”
