New Rangers signing reveals what he'll bring to Ibrox - and the title-winning traits

Dane won the league in Austria last term

New Rangers signing Tochi Chukwuani won the Austrian title with Sturm Graz last season and now he is looking to repeat the trick at Ibrox this term.

A £4 million arrival last week, Danish midfielder Chukwuani made his Rangers debut in Friday night’s 5-0 win over Annan Athletic as the Ibrox side eased into the fifth round of the Scottish Cup.

Silverware is high on the agenda for Chukwuani, who is one of three new arrivals at Rangers alongside left-back Tuur Rommens and winger Andreas Skov Olsen. He believes he has the mentality to deal with the expectation levels and skillset to thrive in the Scottish game.

“I like to play under pressure,” said Chukwuani. “For me I just love to play football and I don't really feel the pressure like that. Obviously it's a big club, but I just try to go out and play my best football, and this is why Rangers got me.

“I’m a physically strong player/ I like to dictate the game on the ball. I like to have the ball a lot. I can also create and then I think one of my really strong forces is driving with the ball and getting out of pressure, tight pressure, playing also on one and two touches. And then I love interceptions, getting stuck in, that's pretty much my playing style.”

Chukwuani, 22, was asked what it takes to win a league title. “It’s each training session to put in a shift and try to get better at each facet of the game and try to bring it into the weekend,” he stated. “I think it's just about the one per cent, that's what I usually call it. That one per cent to push you in every department.”

Old pals act at Rangers

Chukwuani links up with a couple of former teammates in Mohamed Diomande and Oliver Antman, who he played alongside at FC Nordsjaelland.

“Yeah, it's lovely to see familiar faces, Diomande especially, that I've played with in Nordsjaelland,” smiled Chukwuani. “A midfielder that I've always admired, because he's a guy who understands my game as well. He likes to have the ball and dictate the play, so it's always lovely to play with these kind of players.

“I spoke to him and Antman, and they said the fans are amazing and this is something that gives motivation to the player to play in front of these kind of settings, so I just came here now feeling excited to play in front of them.”

Chukwuani has been capped by Denmark right up to under-21 level but says his focus is on club rather than country when asked about a senior call-up.

“Right now I don't really think about the national team,” he added. “My head is really just at Rangers and I believe if I give good performances here then I'll eventually get that call up, but that's not really my primary focus. Yeah, it's always a dream to represent my country, but right now my head is just at Rangers.”
