Timothée Chalamet and Jessie Buckley took home two of the night’s biggest prizes, with Brazilian actor Wagner Moura’s surprise win coming ahead of his starring role at the Edinburgh International Festival.

Film and television stars gathered in Los Angeles last night to celebrate the beginning of awards season with the 2026 Golden Globes ceremony.

It was a big night for Netflix’s Adolescence and Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another, both earning four prizes, despite Leonardo DiCaprio missing out on best male actor to Timothée Chalamet for his role in Marty Supreme.

As for best female actor, the award went to Jessie Buckley. The Irish actress’ first Golden Globe, she won for her performance in Chloe Zhao’s Hamnet, with Adolescence star Owen Cooper following his record-breaking Emmy win earning best supporting male actor.

Brazilian actor Wagner Moura, who will star in a play during this year’s Edinburgh International Festival, was a surprise winner in the drama category for Portuguese film The Secret Agent, with this year’s ceremony also introducing a podcast category which saw Good Hang with Amy Poehler earn the inaugural prize.

Despite earning five nominations, it was a bad night for Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein — which was primarily filmed in Scotland — as it missed out, as did Jennifer Lawrence for her role in Scottish director Lynne Ramsay’s Die My Love.
