The Scottish Premiership is set to return this weekend following a three week international break, with Celtic and Rangers battling it out for a place at the top of the tree.
It’s been an intriguing start to the new campaign, with Derek McInnes’ side stuttering badly at the beginning, before a consistent run of wins led them to back-to-back Old Firm victories over Celtic, who are without a win in their last three games in all competitions.
While the window is closed, the free agent market could still play a part for many other Scottish Premiership clubs before January, with several players still available on free transfers.
But how many free agents are Scottish Premiership stars of the past? Here are 10 former Scottish Premiership players available for free and still searching for new clubs this season.

5. Stevie Mallan
Still just 30 years old, the former Hibs midfielder has endured a tough spell with injury. Making close to 100 appearances at Easter Road between 2018 and 2021, the midfielder left for Yeni Malatyaspor in Turkiye before returning to Scotland with St Johnstone last season after a short spell at Salford. 6. Josh Ginnelly
The former Preston North End winger enjoyed three years at Hearts, scoring 13 goals and forming an impressive partnership with Lawrence Shankland in the 2022/23 season. However, he turned down a new deal to join EFL Championship side Swansea City, saying he wanted a fresh challenge that summer. An Achilles injury halted his impact in Wales, though, and he was released in 2025. Ginnelly signed a short-term deal with Azerbaijani Premier League club Turan Tovuz in January, but was released in June and is yet to find his next team. | Getty Images Photo: Getty Images

7. Ryan Jack
The Rangers fan favourite played a massive role in their invincible title win under Steven Gerrard in 2021, but struggled to keep his place in the side as injury hit. A member of Scotland's squad at the European Championship in 2021 and 2024, he made a surprise move to the Turkish second tier upon the expiry of his contract, signing for Esenler Erokspor. After two years in Istanbul, Jack opted to leave the club and is still currently a free agent at the age of 34. | SNS Group

8. Tom McIntyre
The former Scotland Under-21 international signed for Aberdeen on a short-term deal in the second half of last season, but his stay at Pittodrie lasted just five games due to injury. Released in the summer, the ex-Reading, Portsmouth and Charlton Athletic defender has yet to find a new employer. | SNS Group Photo: SNS Group
