Who is Scotland’s greatest uncapped player of all-time? An age-old question that will see those asking it presented with a host of different responses, with Tartan Army supporters recalling that one special player they wish they’d seen in the famous navy jersey.
Steve Clarke named six uncapped players in his most recent squad for the Nations League, though only one of them made it onto the pitch. Nicky Devlin made his debut in the final throws of the 0-0 draw with Portugal on Tuesday and capped off a memorable night with a decisive block in the closing stages of the Nations League clash. The likes of Andy Irving, Robby McCrorie and Jack MacKenzie were forced to wait for their international debuts though, remaining on the bench as unused substitutes.
But who are the 20 best footballers never to be called up by Scotland? We asked our readers to choose the player who they felt was the best uncapped Scottish footballer of all time via our social media pages, and this is their top 20, in no particular order.

13. Neale Cooper
A legend with Aberdeen, Cooper went from ball boy at Pittodrie to European Cup Winners' Cup winner with the club in 1983. One of the club's most treasured talents, German legend Franz Beckenbauer once said Cooper was the "closest thing I have seen to myself at that age". Bizarrely never capped for Scotland, though. | SNS Group 0141 221 3602

14. Jim Duffy
Duffy was named the Scottish PFA Players' Player of the Year in 1985 with Greenock Morton despite the team conceding the most goals that season in the Premier Division. The stylish Dundee centre-half was forced to retire at the age of 28 through injury, but made an emotional comeback two-and-a-half years later. He was capped just once at under-21 level as an over-age player and never by the senior side. | SNS Group 0141 221 3602

15. Gordon Wallace
Wallace was once the record goal scorer in the league's history with 264 league career goals scored. He was also the first non Old Firm player to win the Scottish footballer of the year in 1968, while playing for Raith Rovers. Despite these achievements, Wallace never appeared in the navy jersey. | SNS Group 0141 221 3602

16. Alan Gordon
Starring for both Edinburgh sides, elegant forward Gordon was a key player for Eddie Turnbull’s Hibs team in the early to mid 70s. The smart striker was Europe’s leading goal scorer in the 1972-73 campaign, scoring 41 goals, yet he never got the call to represent the national side. | SNS Group 0141 221 3602
