A spirited Scotland display saw Steve Clarke’s side gain a morale boosting draw at Hampden Park as they held a a star studded Portugal side to a 0-0 draw in the Nations League.
While Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo took all the pre-match headlines on his first visit to Hampden Park at the ripe old age of 39, it was actually Scotland who went closest to pinching an unlikely win after seeing two golden chances fall by Scott McTominay either side of the break.
In the aftermath of the valiant display, head coach Clarke said: “Obviously, the point was important for us. The work we've put into the group, to get off the mark is nice. So, yeah, it's good. We were defensively sound, the shape of the team good. We denied a lot of space behind. We had good concentration in the box and determined defending at times. Some really good blocks, which you have to do against a team like Portugal. When you need a couple of big saves, your goalkeeper needs to do it as well. Everybody contributed to what is a well-earned point.”
