Rangers complete signing of 'important asset' as Ibrox club address problem position
Rangers have announced their second signing of the January transfer window
Rangers have confirmed the signing of Belgium under-21 international Tuur Rommens as head coach Danny Rohl continues to add to his squad in the January transfer window.
The 22-year-old left-back has signed a three-and-a-half year contract at Ibrox, and becomes the side’s second signing of transfer window, following the arrival of midfielder Tochi Chukwuani from Sturm Graz at the weekend, with Rangers paying Belgian top flight side Westerlo a fee in the region of £3million for his services.

Reports earlier this month indicated that Rohl had identified left-back as one of the positions he wanted to strengthen during the window, with Brentford loanee Jayden Meghoma his only natural option in the position. While a regular for Belgium at youth level, Rommens’ path to the senior team is currently blocked by Brighton’s Maxim De Cuyper and Club Brugge’s Joaquin Seys.
Rommens, 22, began his career at Genk before moving to Westerlo two years ago, and has gone on to play 78 times at Het Kuipje. Viewed as an athletic full-back who contribute both defensively and in attack, the Belgian is regarded as a key addition, with chairman Andrew Cavenagh and his fellow investors are looking to back Rohl in the transfer market after the 36-year-old coach revived Rangers’ title hopes by winning 12 of his first 15 league games in charge.
Following the confirmation of his transfer to Ibrox, the youngster spoke of his delight at signing for Rangers, telling the club’s official website: “ “I’m very happy to be here. It’s a dream to play for a club like this, and I only have positive feelings.
“Everyone knows Rangers, and when a club like this is interested in you, then you want to be part of this club. The most important thing is that they believe in me, and that’s why I have come here.
“It’s a big club with a lot of fans, and they always play in Europe. It was very easy for me to make this choice.”
Rangers boss Rohl added: “I am delighted to welcome Tuur to the club. He is a young and hungry player who adds real quality and physicality to the group and increases competition in a key area of the pitch.
“We believe he will be a fantastic addition to the side and an important asset in the years ahead.”
