'Friendly' Scots Irish bistro added to Michelin Guide

A newly opened neighbourhood bistro has been included in the Michelin Guide.

As we approach the end of the month, the inspectors for the Michelin Guide have added some new editions to the UK and Ireland edition.

Every month the inspectors for the coveted guide reveal the restaurants that have caught their attention and are worthy of inclusion in the 2026 Michelin Guide for the UK and Ireland.

While new stars and bib gourmands were revealed in Dublin in February, the inspectors are on the road all year round, eating their way around some of the country’s best restaurants.

For July, just one Scottish restaurant was added to the coveted guide - Eleven Fifty Five in Glasgow’s west end.

The ‘upscale yet approachable’ bistro opened on the site of The Gannet on Argyle Street earlier this year.

The new restaurant is the latest venture from Mr McKenna, one of Glasgow’s most acclaimed chefs, and Mr Dow, arguably the city’s most beloved Maître D’ following the closure of The Gannet in late 2025.

Peter has reimagined the space, drawing inspiration from cosy Irish snugs, years of travel and Parisian bistrots.

He co-founded The Gannet in 2013, which quickly gained acclaim, becoming a cornerstone of Scotland’s contemporary dining scene and proudly maintaining three AA Rosettes for over a decade and a Michelin mention.

Now Eleven Fifty Five has gained the same nod from the Guide, with inspectors saying of Eleven Fifty Five: “Nestled within the trendy Finnieston neighbourhood, this friendly bistro comes from the team behind The Gannet, which previously occupied this site.

“The tantalising à la carte opens with snacks (look out for oysters served multiple ways) and lightly glazed milk bread with whipped butter, before moving onto more substantial dishes such as a generous helping of Barra cockles with Café de Paris butter.

“Be sure to check out the chalked-up specials too, and start your visit at the bar with a martini, Manhattan or, as you’re in Scotland, a Rob Roy.”

Ahead of Eleven Fifty Five opening, Peter McKenna, chef-owner, said of the new venture: “The time is right to close this page and move onto the next, it has been an incredible run with The Gannet and I’m truly grateful for how our work has resonated with so many.

“Eleven Fifty Five feels like a natural evolution. While we will maintain the high standards we've set, we’ll refocus our offerings to emphasise comfort from the dishes we serve to the inviting atmosphere of the different dining spaces, we will offer our guests cosy corners to get lost in, private spaces for get togethers and vibrant counter dining.

“You will see a lot of familiar faces in the team as everyone at The Gannet is as excited as Kevin and I for the next chapter. The whole team are really looking forward to welcoming diners in the new year”.
