Here’s how you can get home if you’re considering celebrating Scotland at the World Cup in Edinburgh, Glasgow or Aberdeen.
With Scotland in the World Cup for the first time in 28 years, football fans staying at home for the tournament will be hoping to make the most of the excitement.
Fan zones have been set up around the country, with many pubs across Scotland extending their opening hours to accommodate late kick offs with the World Cup being held in North America.
The men’s national team will first face Haiti on Sunday, June 14 at 2am UK time. Just under a week later on Friday, June 19, Scotland will play Morocco at 11pm. The team will then go up against Brazil on Wednesday, June 24, with kick off also at 11pm.
For those hoping to soak up the atmosphere of Scotland at the World Cup for the first time since 1998, there will be plenty of opportunities to do so - especially with many late night transport options being made available for fans.
Here’s everything you need to know about how you can get home following World Cup matches around Scotland, including in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen.
What Scotland fans need to know about late night transport during the 2026 World Cup
If you don’t live close enough to be able to get a taxi home after catching Scotland at the World Cup, then you may have to consider booking a hotel in town as transport options are likely to be limited due to event timings.
With that being said, in cities such as Aberdeen or Glasgow there will be extra night buses running - with some other options also available elsewhere.
For those who don’t want to miss out, here’s what you need to know.
Aberdeen
Aberdeen is the only city in Scotland offering free night bus services for Scotland’s first group stage matches at the 2026 World Cup.
Running throughout the city and to certain destinations in Aberdeenshire, First Bus will operate the early morning services.
In addition, Stagecoach North Scotland will be operating select overnight services, though passengers will need to pay fares for these journeys. This will include Service 727 across all three fixtures, which runs between Portlethen, Aberdeen city centre, Aberdeen Airport and more. Service N6 to Westhill will also be running on Sunday, June 14 and Saturday, June 20.
Further information regarding Stagecoach’s World Cup services can be found on their website.
Otherwise, the five bus services operating for free in Aberdeen - funded by bus lane enforcement - are as follows:
- N1 (First Bus)
- N17 (First Bus)
- N23 (First Bus)
- N201 (First Bus)
- N18 (First Bus)
- 727 (Stagecoach)
- N6 (Stagecoach)
These services will run on Sunday, June 14 and Saturday, June 20 as well as Thursday, June 25. The full routes and further details can be found here.
Glasgow
If you are in Glasgow to soak up the atmosphere, there will be night services on offer from both First Bus and McGill’s so there should be no need to worry about how you are getting home.
There will be extended services on Sunday, June 14 to cover later closing times, while following Scotland’s match on Friday, June 19 there will be standard late night options following the final whistle.
Then for the national team’s match on Wednesday, June 24, FirstBus will run a full NightBus timetable to accommodate the event.
There will be no changes to the operator’s 77 service which connects the city centre to Charing Cross, Partick, and Queen Elizabeth University Hospital 24/7.
Due to the late kick off time for Scotland vs. Haiti on Sunday, June 24 the N2, N18, N240 and N267 will be running later than usual.
As for Scotland vs. Morocco on Friday, June 19 the 11pm kick off time means the regular Night Bus timetable will be running, with the same timetable in effect for Scotland vs. Brazil on Wednesday, June 24, although these late services don’t typically run on weekdays.
For those who are travelling on McGill’s Buses, the operator will run their standard late night buses for an additional hour following the final scheduled departure.
Due to the kick off time for Scotland’s game on Friday, June 19 typical night services will be in operation, then on Wednesday, June 24 into Thursday, June 25 the operator’s full weekend night bus timetable will be in place to help supporters get home following the match.
