Scottish restaurant named best in the country at 2026 National Restaurant Awards

An award-winning Scottish restaurant has been named the best in the country at this year’s National Restaurant Awards.

The National Restaurant Awards have taken place, with restaurants, chefs and wine and drinks lists all under scrutiny to be named best in the UK, as well as regional winners in Scotland and Wales.

Edinburgh’s Timberyard took home the Best Restaurant in Scotland award along with Best Cocktail bar.

Timberyard has a Michelin Star and is known for its sustainable and seasonal tasting menus. It was also, this year, awarded a Michelin Green Star.

Further afield, Bouchon Racine in London has been crowned The Best Restaurant in the UK while, for the first time ever at the National Restaurant Awards, Osip and The Ritz have jointly claimed second place.

Merlin Labron-Johnson’s Osip, located in the Somerset countryside, has continued to win praise for its refined farm-to-table ethos and deeply seasonal cooking, while The Ritz London remains one of the capital’s defining dining destinations under executive chef John Williams MBE.

A total of 29 new restaurants entered the top 100 this year, reflecting the continued dynamism and evolution of the UK dining scene. London restaurants dominated the list with over half the 100 being located in the English capital.

The awards also demonstrate the growing breadth and quality of restaurants across the wider UK, from rural destination dining rooms to neighbourhood favourites redefining local hospitality.

The Scottish restaurants listed in the top 100 are: Timberyard at 25; Lyla at 33; The Kinneuchar Inn at 35; The Glenturret Lalique Restaurant at 44; The Kitchin at 49; Dogstar in Leith at 51; The Palmerston at 65 and Inver at 93.
