How to have a Michelin-inspired Christmas dinner at home
It’s beginning to look a lot like - a huge food shop. But you can treat yourself and loved ones to a Michelin-inspired Christmas this year, finds Rosalind Erskine
As we’re in the final week of November, thoughts have inevitably turned to Christmas and dinner.
My sister, who is hosting us once again, got slightly freaked out at the dwindling order slots for turkey and so put ours in early. But if you’re not as quick off the mark, then some top Scottish chefs have you covered with their cook-at-home kits.
The one that caught my eye this week, and is something I think my sister would’ve been happy with if we’d ended up sans turkey, is the Cail Bruich, CB at home Christmas box.
It serves six and includes: Smoked salmon and Kings Oscietra caviar plus classic garnish; fillet of beef Wellington with rich red wine gravy; sticky toffee pudding with Madagascan vanilla custard and salted whisky caramel and, to top it off, a bottle of Delamotte NV Champagne. Priced at £295, orders are being taken now and collection is from the restaurant in Glasgow’s west end on Christmas eve from 10am.
It’s not turkey and Christmas pudding, but it sounds fab and, having tried their cook-at-home kits during Covid, I’m confident it'll all be easy to prepare.

Over in Edinburgh, Wedgwood the Restaurant is offering something similar with their At Home Festive Box. The box has everything you need for a full six-course feast, created using local Scottish ingredients and instructions.
Launched during Covid, the offering made a comeback last Christmas and is once again available this year. Stating that not only were these dishes “tried and tested recipes that won’t let you down”, chef Paul Wedgwood said his festive boxes contained local produce of the very highest quality.
“Your Christmas Day Dinner should be the most special of the year,” he said. Priced from £90, the boxes are available for delivery delivered nationally and across Edinburgh and the Lothians.
Finally Côte Brasserie has recently launched its ever popular Christmas and Hogmanay specials, designed by Gordon Ramsay’s former executive chef and delivered direct to the door, nationwide.
This year, executive chef Steve Allen, whose Michelin-starred career spans Restaurant Gordon Ramsay, Pétrus and Claridge’s, has created a line-up that’s indulgent and traditional.
The Festive Turkey Feast (£134.95, serves six) has a marinated British turkey breast from Larchwood Farm, surrounded by honey-glazed pigs in blankets, Brussels sprouts à la Française, apricot and mustard glazed Chantenay carrots, as well as roast miso parsnips with shallot and thyme jus.
For those who want beef, there’s the Chateaubriand Feast (£164.95, serves six) that includes a 1kg cut, served beautifully, and surrounded by all the same trimmings.
Vegetarians can order the new Tartiflette Feast for four (£49.95) that pairs molten Camembert and shredded Fable mushrooms with spiced braised red cabbage and golden roasted vegetables.
With these easy to order, and prepare, meal boxes, it’s no stress if you forget to order the turkey. The chefs have done all the work for you.
