This week sees a fresh batch of candidates compete to win a £250,000 investment from Lord Sugar in the 20th series of the long-running BBC show The Apprentice.
First broadcast in the UK in February 2005, following the success of the American version featuring a certain Donald J. Trump, The Apprentice is one of the Beeb’s most successful shows.
Originally aired on BBC 2 it soon made the transition to BBC One, as viewers became hooked on the tasks set by Amstrad founder Lord Sugar.
Season 20 of the show will launch on Thursday, January 29, at 9pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
And the first episode will see the boardroom held in Hong Kong - with Baroness Karren Brady and former winner Tim Campbell advising Lord Sugar on the suitability of the candidates.
The last entrepreneur standing will receive a cool quarter-of-a-million pound investment, along with mentorship from Lord Sugar himself.

1. Tanmay Hingorani
"I’m unique because I combine creativity and analytical thinking in everything I do. I approach challenges with logic and structure but bring imagination and curiosity that help me spot opportunities others might miss. I stay calm under pressure, think strategically, and make decisions with intent. I’m emotionally intelligent and intuitive, able to read people and situations quickly. When something excites me, I throw myself into it fully, bringing focus, pace and originality. The blend of clear thinking, intuition and technical expertise lets me connect ideas and execution in a way that delivers real results." | BBC

2. Vanessa Tetteh-Squire
"I’m straightforward and direct in my approach I say what I mean and mean what I say. I don’t view limitations as obstacles; rather, I see them as opportunities to innovate, challenge myself, and prove what I’m capable of. As Nelson Mandela once said, “It always seems impossible until it’s done.” I believe that’s the mindset that turns challenges into triumphs." | BBC

3. Rothna Akhtar
"Part-time baking has taught me to have attention to detail in both cakes and life, whilst my wellbeing job has allowed me to read people instantly - a combination Lord Sugar has never seen. There’s a perception that business requires being cut-throat. I don’t buy it. You can make firm and brutal decisions but still operate with integrity. I’m never afraid to stand out in a room (and I’ve stood out for obvious reasons), and I believe I deserve a place at the table. I can hold my own, stay resilient under pressure and confront entitled people where necessary." | BBC

4. Roxanne Hamedi
"As a Persian-Scottish pharmacist with over 10 years of experience in healthcare, who self-funded both her own aesthetics clinic and cosmetics line Browtasia, I combine in-depth knowledge of ingredients with innovative solutions for real beauty concerns. I bring a rare blend of scientific expertise, creativity, and entrepreneurial drive, which sets me apart in the beauty industry. My journey from personal struggles with hair loss to creating successful businesses demonstrates resilience, integrity, and a commitment to helping others regain confidence. I bring elegance, sexiness, sassiness, and determination, and with a revolutionary brand ready to lead the next wave of innovation, I am a truly unique candidate for The Apprentice." | BBC
