Scotland's Kyle Steyn learns Six Nations Player of the Championship fate as award winner announced
Four nominees discover outcome as record-breaker lands title
France winger Louis Bielle-Biarrey has been named the 2026 Guinness Men’s Six Nations Player of the Championship.
The 22-year old beat Scotland and Glasgow Warriors’ wing Kyle Steyn to the prize as well as Italy’s Tommaso Menoncello and Ireland’s Stuart McCloskey. He becomes just the fourth player to pick up the trophy on multiple occasions having made it back-to-back wins following last year’s success.
It is even more impressive given that 2026 was just the third Six Nations Championship that the Bordeaux Bègles hitman has participated in. He joins former Scotland full back Stuart Hogg on two Player of the Tournament wins and is just one behind Ireland legend Brian O’Driscoll and France teammate Antoine Dupont who have both won the award three times.
Bielle-Biarrey in line for more history after record breaking 2026 Six Nations
Bielle-Biarrey broke the record for most tries by an individual in a single tournament after crossing four times against England in the final match of this year’s competition. That brought his total to nine, beating his own record of eight which he set the previous year.
Those four tries against the English also equaled the record for most in a single Six Nations match along with Chris Ashton who managed the same for England against Italy back in 2011. On top of that, Bielle-Biarrey holds the record as the only player to have scored in 10 consecutive Six Nations matches.
The winger also scored in every match he played in, including a super try against Scotland at Murrayfield in the memorable 50-40 victory for Gregor Townsend’s side which ultimately denied France the Grand Slam. Since making his France debut in 2023 he has scored an astonishing 29 tires in just 27 caps.
At just 22-years old, he can look ahead to potentially smashing even more records with Brian O’Driscoll all time try record in the Six Nations in his sights. The former Ireland and Leinster centre managed 26 tries in his Six Nations career and Bielle-Biarrey is already only eight tries away from equalling that impressive total.
This latest award caps off a sensational 12 month period which has not only included back-to-back Six Nations Championship and Player of the Tournament wins, but also a Champions Cup victory with club side Bordeaux. Although they have not been able to replicate that success in the Top 14 yet, Bielle-Biarrey’s club side are amongst the favourites for this year’s Champions Cup and face Leicester Tigers in the Round of 16 on Sunday.
Scotland star beaten by French sensation but plenty to be positive about
Although he didn’t win the award, being nominated for Player of the Tournament shows the progress that Kyle Steyn has made with both Scotland and Glasgow Warriors over the past 12 months. The 32-year old has gone from having to fight for a place in the matchday 23 to establishing himself as one of Gregor Townsend’s most important players due to his unrivaled ability within the squad when attacking and defending kicks.
His nomination marked the third successive year that a Scotland player has made the four man shortlist for Six Nations Player of the Tournament following Blair Kinghorn last year and Duhan van der Merwe in 2024. Scotland had previously gone two years without a nomination after Hamish Watson’s win in 2021 which made the Edinburgh flanker just the second Scot to pick up the award after Stuart Hogg’s back-to-back wins in 2016 and 2017.
