'World class' South African star who Glasgow Warriors held talks with confirms summer move
Bulls utility back had been linked with a summer switch to Scotstoun
Vodacom Bulls player David Kriel will leave the URC club this summer after accepting a contract offer from French Top 14 club La Rochelle.

The 27-year old, who is comfortable in multiple positions across the back line including fullback and centre, was a player that Glasgow Warriors had been keen to sign. However, a move to Scotstoun did not come to fruition and it was confirmed last moth that any possible deal was off the table after discussions had been held.
Speaking at the time, Warriors assistant coach Scott Forrest said: “That one's dead, I think there were some conversations going on. Probably there's been quite a few conversations, as there always is when you sound out players. Everyone knows we've got guys moving on at the end of the season, so we're always looking at where do we need to strengthen.”

The Bulls, who were beaten in the Investec Champions Cup Round of 16 by Glasgow at the weekend, have wished Kriel the best after confirming he will move to France in July. It will bring to an end six seasons in Pretoria for the former Stormers man who won two Currie Cups during his time at Loftus Versfeld and also finished as a runner-up in the URC and Pro 14 Rainbow Cup.
Speaking about his move, Kriel said: “I couldn’t be more excited to be heading there to learn French culture, to meet new people and still do the thing that I love most.
“I would like to thank everyone who contributed to my journey with the Vodacom Bulls. I’m very thankful for every coach, every player, every staff member, and every fan for making my time here so memorable.
“I’m grateful for each opportunity and the growth as not only a player but as a human being. Goodbyes are never easy, especially to something that means so much to me and a place I’ve called home for the last six years. It’s very difficult to say goodbye. It was a dream to play for the Vodacom Bulls since I was a young boy; I’m just thankful to everyone who made it possible for me to achieve that dream.”
Bulls chief thanks ‘world class’ Kriel as summer move to France confirmed
Vodacom Bulls chief executive Edgar Rathbone paid tribute to the 27-year old, adding: “David has been a quintessential professional and a cornerstone of our backline over the last six seasons. Watching his transition from a promising talent into a world class player and a leader within our environment has been a privilege for all of us at Loftus.
“While we are naturally disappointed to lose a player of his versatility and character, we believe in supporting our players’ ambitions to test themselves in different leagues. He leaves with our sincere gratitude for his immense contribution to the blue jersey, and we wish him and his family only the very best for their new adventure in France.”
