Key Glasgow Warriors man reaffirms commitment to club amid raft of summer departures

Scotland scrum-half targeting more trophies with Warriors as any talk of potential Scotstoun exit brushed aside.

Glasgow Warriors scrum-half George Horne has reaffirmed his commitment to the club and insists he remains "fully focused" on bringing silverware to Scotstoun.

The 31-year-old is entering his tenth season as a Glasgow player and is one of the most experienced members of the squad after a raft of internationalists left the club this summer. The likes of Jack Dempsey and Adam Hastings have moved on to pastures new, but Horne made no secret of his love for Warriors and his drive for success this season, which starts a week on Friday when they begin their latest URC campaign away to Munster.

“I love playing at Glasgow," he said. "I hope that's clear to see when I'm on the field, how much it means to me. “I genuinely enjoy coming to work each day and representing the city, the club and the people. My thoughts are just fully on trying to win more competitions at Glasgow at the moment."

'All that hard work for northing' - George Horne discusses semi-final 'hurt' and injury that ruled him out of Murrayfield clash

The Scotland scrum-half played the full 80 minutes and kicked three out of three conversions as Warriors beat the Bulls 21-16 in 2024 URC final. However, last year’s campaign ended with the Pretoria outfit exacting their revenge by winning their semi-final clash at Murrayfield with Horne missing that game through injury.

"I injured my hand in the Connacht game the week before,” explained the 31-year-old. “We were just giving it time, I hadn't trained all week.

"On the day of the game I knew myself it was no good and it was tough to make that decision because you want to play but then at the same time you don't want to go out there and let everyone down. It was a really tough week in my career.

“It's an 11-month season now and you work so hard to put yourself in that position. We did all that hard work pretty much for nothing.

"You have those amazing days, the night against Toulouse, wins away in Clermont and Sale, some of the best games of your career and it all accumulates in absolutely nothing. It’s something that really hurts."
