In its near 150 year history, the Melrose Sevens has seen more than its fair share of great teams take to the pitch at the Greenyards.
However, since the advent of the professional game, the full-time clubs have generally opted to send mainly development players to the Borders town when invited. That wasn’t the case in 2015 though when Glasgow Warriors bucked the trend with a stacked roster of talent.
The team included current and future Scotland internationals, Scotland Sevens regulars, a Fijian cult hero and one of the greatest players to ever take part in the shortened game. Here is the Warriors’ squad that stormed to victory at the 2015 Melrose Sevens:

5. Niko Matawalu
A fan favourite who has gone down as a Warriors cult hero from his two spells at the club. He lit up the Greenyards that day as he had been known to do for the all conquering Fiji 7s team of the time | SNS Group/SRU

6. Folau Niua
One of two USA 7s stars for Warriors at the tournament. The fly-half only made one appearance for the club but did earn 17 senior caps for his country | SNS Group/SRU

7. Lee Jones
Unlike future caps Brown and Hughes the winger was already a full Scotland international by 2015. He was on loan at Warriors from Edinburgh at the time but made the move permanent and was another who featured regularly for Scotland 7s | SNS Group/SRU

8. Scott Wight
Wight had already lifted the historic Centenary Cup a few years prior as he captained home side Melrose to victory in 2011. They fly-half only featured sporadically during his Warriors career as Duncan Weir and Ruaridh Jackson initially kept him out of the team before the emergence of Finn Russell in 2013. | SNS Group/SRU
