Involving the top 12 ranked players as at the end of the World Open, last year saw Scotland’s John Higgins defeat Mark Selby 10-8 in the final to take the title.

He returned this year along with another 11 of the world’s best players - and started his defence with a vintage 10-8 win over old rival Mark Williams in the first round.

He followed that up with a stirring 10-8 win over Mark Selby to book a semi-final place but was then thumped 10-1 by an in-form Zhao Xintong in the last four.

Xintong will now play Judd Trump in the final, who beat Neil Robertson 10-4 on Friday
