Owen Elding’s 13-second opener for Hibs during their 3-0 win over Kilmarnock at the weekend was comfortably the fastest goal scored in the Scottish Premiership this season.
At this late juncture, with just six games left to play, it feels like the teenager may have also secured a little bit of history for himself, a mere two months after his arrival from Shelbourne. But where does he rank on the list of fastest goals scored in Scottish Premiership history?
Of course, the fastest goal in Scottish football history is widely recognized as having been scored in 2.1 seconds by Gavin Stokes while playing for Maryhill against Clydebank in 2017, while Maria McAneny’s goal for Celtic against Hibs in the Scottish Women’s Premier League earlier this season set a Guinness World Record for the fastest goal in women's football history, scoring in just 4.1 seconds.
Gordon Durie also scored Rangers’ fastest goal in their history, opening the scoring after just 11 seconds in a 2-0 win over Dundee United at Tannadice in 1995. However, the strike was before the formation of the Scottish Premiership (or Scottish Premier League).
Here, we look at 8 of the fastest goals ever scored in Scottish Premiership history, from 8-1.

1. Daizen Maeda (Rangers vs Celtic, April 2024)
One of the fastest ever Old Firm derby goals, Maeda's ricocheted shot flew beyond Jack Butland in the Rangers goal to open the scoring after just 21 seconds. The score ended 3-3 on a chaotic after at Ibrox in January 2024. | SNS Group

2. Saulius Mikoliunas (St Mirren vs Hearts, 2006)

3. Chris Sutton (Rangers vs Celtic, 2002)

4. Kenny McLean (St Mirren vs Hibs, 2014)
He scored a slightly more important goal about nine-and-half years later, but Scotland international McLean holds the record for the fastest goal by a St Mirren player in the Scottish Premiership after he bagged against Hibs after just 13 seconds. | SNS Group
