Rangers end their underwhelming Europa League campaign with a visit to Portuguese giants Porto this evening as they look to continue their winning run at Estádio do Dragão.
Danny Rohl’s side may be eliminated from the competition, but they will look to secure a statement win against Francesco Farioli’s side to stretch their run of victories to nine in all competitions.
Currently seven points clear at the top of Liga Portugal, Porto are looking to secure a top eight finish in the League Phase and seal automatic qualification to the last 16 of the Europa League.
They enter the game as favourites, and will be hoping to gain revenge for their 2-0 loss at Ibrox in 2019, the last time the sides met, where second-half goals from Steven Davis and Alfredo Morelos sealed a famous European home win for Steven Gerrard’s side.
But what happened to the Rangers starting XI that defeated Porto 2-0 in the Group Stages of the Europa League back in 2019?

1. GK: Allan McGregor
McGregor played a vital role in the club’s run to the Europa League final in 2022, pulling off several memorable saves as they made it all the way to Seville. The iconic Rangers goalkeeper retired in the summer of 2023, and is frequently seen as a TV pundit. Spent three months as the club's interim goalkeeper coach under Barry Ferguson last season. | SNS Group

2. RB: James Tavernier
The Rangers skipper is the only player still at the club from that famous night against Porto. Has given over a decade of service at Ibrox and became the highest-scoring defender in British history during his time in Govan with 139 goals. Out of contract in the summer, it could be his final season at the club unless a new deal is agreed. | SNS Group

3. CB: Connor Goldson
His time at Rangers came to an end in the summer of 2024, when he was allowed to move to Aris Limassol for an undisclosed fee. A loyal servant at Ibrox, he won each domestic trophy during his six-year spell in Glasgow and was a vital part of the squad that made it to the final of the Europa League in 2022. Now a regular at Aris, he plays alongside former Rangers teammates Leon Balogun and Ross McAusland in Cyprus. | SNS Group

4. CB: Filip Helander
The 32-year-old was a key player in Rangers' 2021 league title win, but endured a torturous time with injuries in the seasons that followed, and hardly featured before leaving on a free transfer to join Odense in 2023. Managed to fight his way back to fitness over the last three years, and currently plays regularly for BK Hacken in the Swedish top flight. Recently signed a three-year contract at the Bravida Arena following a successful loan spell. | SNS Group
