Rangers hold talks with 22 y/o starlet as £8.5m ace lands comparison to 52-goal former Ibrox striker
Rangers are looking to add to their squad with the signing of a talented young midfielder
Rangers have opened talks with Sturm Graz over a deal for their talented young midfielder Tochi Chukwuani, according to reports on Wednesday afternoon.
Head coach Danny Rohl is believed to have made midfield a priority position during the January transfer window, and is said to have placed the 22-year-old high on their list of options, while they also continue to monitor BK Hacken star Silas Anderson, as per an exclusive report from the Rangers Review.
The Denmark under-21 international is the latest name to be linked with a move to the Glasgow giants this summer. It is claimed that the Rangers hierarchy has already held talks with Sturm Graz regarding a move for Chukwuani, who joined the Austrian Bundesliga champions in the summer of 2024 following stints at Nordsjælland and Lyngby in his home country.

Former Sunderland midfielder Pierre Ekwah has been linked with Rangers several times since the summer, alongside Chukwuani and BK Hacken midfielder Silas Anderson. It is claimed that Swedish international Anderson had been the subject of “enquiries” from Ibrox recruitment chiefs in the past few days, though reports say no formal contact has been made to his club, BK Hacken, yet.
Reported to have failed a medical check at Hellas Verona three-and-a-half years ago due to the discovery of a minor heart defect, Chukwuani saw a move to the Serie A fall through due to strict rules regarding cardiac issues. It hasn’t halted his career, though, with the player going on to play in the Champions League for Die Schwoazn last season.
He faced Rangers in the Europa League earlier this season, where he played the full 90 minutes of Sturm Graz’s 2-1 win. He also started his side’s game with Celtic in the same competition in October, where he was sent off for a second bookable offence late in the second half.
With fringe players Joe Rothwell and Lyall Cameron expected to move on from the club this month, the Gers are hopeful of adding new additions in the engine room as soon as possible. New recruitment chief Stig Inge Bjornabye is understood to have scouted various markets to add to Rohl’s squad, with the club hopeful they can add new additions soon.
Meanwhile, Rangers midfielder Nico Raskin believes that £8.5million summer signing Youssef Chermiti will follow in the footsteps of his former Ibrox teammate Cyriel Dessers, who scored 52 goals for Rangers before his move to Panathinaikos in the summer, after his brace in the 3-1 win over Celtic last weekend saw his name chanted by supporters.
“He's quick, can hold the ball, can score goals so we're just pleased for him,” said Raskin following the win over Aberdeen. “He's a top guy, he brought something to our team and every game now he's just showing a bit more of himself, a bit more of his personality and we really enjoyed Youssef.

“Youssef reminds me a bit of Cyriel in the sense of whatever happened for him, critics or not, he's always kept his smile, always kept his good attitude, worked hard on training and we knew looking at him that he would come good at some point because he has everything to be a top striker. We have a really good squad. No one is allowed to get too down.
“We always pick them up. We always try to go in the same direction. Because at the end of the day we are the guys on the pitch, all together. So we need Youssef. We need Youssef at his best. Everyone was there for him. Now he can show all his qualities and we’re happy for him.”
