'In the process': Rangers boss addresses Sterling question and gives transfer update amid expected departure
Rangers boss Danny Rohl has provided an update on Dujon Sterling’s availability ahead of the game with Aberdeen on Tuesday.
Rangers boss Danny Rohl has broken his silence on the availability of key player Dujon Sterling after the versatile defender was arrested at the weekend.
The 26-year-old was arrested in the early hours of Sunday morning following his side’s crucial 3-1 win over Celtic in the Scottish Premiership. He was charged in connection with road traffic offences after reports of a one-vehicle crash, though no one was injured in the accident.
Recently back from a long-term Achilles tendon problem, the defender was one of Rangers’ best performers as Rohl’s side staged a superb second-half comeback to down their fierce rivals at Parkhead to stay within six points of league leaders Hearts, where a brace from Youssef Chermiti and Mikey Moore sealed all three points for the visitors.

However, with Rohl’s side scheduled to welcome managerless Aberdeen, who will have Peter Leven in interim charge for the game, to Ibrox this Tuesday night, the availability of Sterling was questioned following his arrest. The German boss acknowledged the incident during his pre-game press conference and provided an update on the defender’s chances of featuring against the Dons later this week.
“He’s available,” said Rohl. “He was yesterday in here for training, and made a full recovery. I'm glad that nothing happened more. And everything else we will see.
Meanwhile, the Rangers head coach provided supporters with an update on their plans for the January transfer window, saying the club is working “really hard” to bring new signings into the club. “I think the good thing is, since I arrived, we’ve reduced the gap from 13 points to just 6,” said Rohl. “They feel it now, but you have to be on the front foot. If we take one more bad result, then the gap could be opened again. It's an advantage for Hearts. They are still six points ahead of us as far as we have to hunt.

“I fully trust the board and Andrew [Cavenagh],” said Rohl. “We have a good picture. But at the moment, we are working on some things. We are in the process. Then it's about the final decision. Maybe the second part, if we get this done, we can come through. But the good thing is I think it was also a good statement for my players [against Celtic] that this is a group that is growing."
According to several reports, the Ibrox giants are prepared to allow youngster Lyall Cameron to depart on loan this month, with the 23-year-old having played just 186 minutes of league football this term. The midfielder joined Rangers in the summer following the expiry of his contract with Dundee, but has struggled to nail down a spot in the matchday squad, and wasn’t included in the win over Celtic at the weekend. Discussions are also being had over a departure for Scotland under-21 international Findlay Curtis, with reports claiming the teenager could leave the club temporarily this month.
