Rangers edge towards major transfer breakthrough - how it could affect interest in 5-goal EPL ace
Rangers are close to a big breakthrough in the transfer market, according to reports.
Rangers are close to making a major breakthrough in the January transfer window after holding ‘positive talks’ with Wolfsburg winger Andreas Skov Olsen over a move to Ibrox this month.
According to a report from the Rangers Review, head coach Danny Rohl had identified the Denmark international as a key transfer target this month - and the Glasgow giants are now said to have made progress on a loan deal for the 26-year-old after holding talks with the player in the last 24 hours.
The Hillerod-born player moved to the Bundesliga giants for a fee of £12million just 12 months ago, but has struggled for regular game time. He is thought to be available on a temporary deal in the window, with several clubs across Europe thought to have enquired about the player.

Capped 40 times by his national side, the talented attacker has started just four league games for Daniel Breuer’s side this term, and the ex-Club Brugge star is now open to leaving the Volkswagen Arena this month in search of game time.
The player is believed to be keen on making a temporary move to Ibrox, though no agreement has been reached with Wolfsburg as of yet. Reports add the the Rangers hierarchy will now look to hold further discussions over the loan deal until the end of the current campaign. Rangers have had good relations with the German club in the past, agreeing a similar move for Czech Republic international Vaclav Cerny in the summer of 2024.
Should Rangers complete a move for Skov Olsen, it could see them turn attentions away from Sunderland’s Romaine Mundle, who was linked to the club over the weekend. The 22-year-old former Tottenham Hotspur academy product was reportedly a target for the club alongside club teammate Dan Neil. However, any progress on a move for Skov Olsen could see them pivot away from a deal for the Black Cats star, who scored five goals at the Stadium of Light last term.

Currently three points adrift of league leaders Hearts at the top of the Scottish Premiership, Rangers are looking to significantly strengthen their squad during the winter transfer window as they look to launch a title charge in the second half of the campaign.
Having already added Strum Graz midfielder Tochi Chukwuani at the weekend, Rohl is also expected to complete the signing of Westerlo left-back Tuur Rommens after the two clubs agreed a fee in the region of £3.5m over the weekend. The Belgium under-21 international is reported to have undergone medical tests at the weekend and would compete with on-loan Brentford defender Jayden Meghoma for the left-back position.
