Rangers centurion confirms Ibrox departure with emotional 138-word message to supporters

Rangers goalkeeper Jack Butland has confirmed his departure from the club by taking to social media to post an emotional goodbye message to supporters amid his impending move to Hull City.

Butland, 33, is set to seal a £3million move to the newly promoted English Premier League outfit in the coming days following the arrival of Croatian international goalkeeper Ivor Pandur on Tuesday night, who moves in the opposition direction for a reported fee of £6million.

The England international moved to Rangers on a free transfer from Crystal Palace almost exactly three years ago, and he went on to play over 100 games for the club, winning the Scottish League Cup in 2023 with a 1-0 win over Aberdeen at Hampden Park and played a key role in Rangers' march to the quarter-finals of the Europa League in 2025.

While the club are yet to official confirm is exit, Butland looks to have already announced his own departure by posting a message to the club and it’s supporters via his official Instagram page.

“Three years go, I made a decision to join this great football club,” wrote Butland. “I had no hesitation and I’m so glad I did. While it’s been a rollercoaster, I’ve always tried to represent the club in the best way I can, both on and off the pitch and I leave with a great sense of pride knowing that I truly gave the fans, the club and my teammates my wall.

“To the fans that followed us everywhere, you are what makes this club so great. We created memories and atmospheres all over Europa and the sound of Ibrox in full voice will stay with me forever. This is only goodbye for now. You’ve created a family of lifelong Rangers fans. Once a Ranger, always a Ranger. Me and my family will always be that. Thank you.”

A number of current and former Rangers players also commented on the post, with Nico Raskin writing” super Jack Butland in goal” alongside a sad face emoji. Ex-Ibrox loan star Mikey Moore wrote “good luck, Jack”, while ex-teammate Todd Cantwell said the goalkeeper had “done himself proud”. Former Rangers man Ridvan Yilmaz simply wrote: “big dog, all the best.”

Signing a four-year deal upon his arrival at Rangers in 2023, then-head coach Michael Beale labelled Butland as “an excellent goalkeeper and a top person”, adding that he was “looking forward to seeing him excel in his time at Rangers.”

Butland’s departure comes in the wake of Pandur’s signing, with Rangers confirming the arrival of the 26-year-old stopper yesterday. The former Fortuna Sittard stopper agreed a four-year deal in Glasgow earlier this week, just months after helping Hull gain promotion to the English Premier League via the second-tier playoffs.

The goalkeeper becomes Rangers’ fourth signing of a busy summer transfer window so far alongside Scotland internationals Lawrence Shankland and Ross McCrorie, while Atalanta defender Ben Godfrey has joined on a loan deal.
