'I had no choice': Ex-Rangers man opens up on 'disappointing' three month spell and hints at future plans
The former Rangers ace is on the lookout for a new club after being released.
Former Rangers loanee Aaron Ramsey has addressed his shock exit from Pumas for the first time, as he opened up on his three-month stay with the Mexican outfit.
The 34-year-old, who spent six months on loan at Rangers at the beginning of 2022, made the surprise move to the Liga MX side in July, penning a one-year deal with Efraín Juarez’s side following his departure from Cardiff City in the summer. He had taken interim charge of his boyhood club for the final three games of the season, but opted against moving into coaching at this point in his career.
However, the ex-Ibrox man’s time at the Estadio Olímpico Universitario proved to be ill-fated, with Ramsey playing just six times due to injury. At the same time, he was also beset by a family tragedy during his time in the country. His treasured family dog, Halo, disappeared shortly after his arrival, an experience his family described as "haunting".

The ex-Arsenal star offered a £15,000 reward to anyone who was able to help track down his beloved pet, who had vanished from a ranch in San Miguel de Allende, but after weeks with no success, the family issued a statement saying they had to "accept she has likely passed away.”
Both the player and his family returned to his native Wales at the end of October, with Ramsey opting to take on an informal role with Craig Bellamy and his national side’s coaching staff. However, he would not return to the Mexican capital after being informed that his contract had been terminated.
Two months on from his surprise exit from Pumas, the experienced playmaker has now taken to his official Instagram page to directly address his time with the club, while also claiming that he is fit, perhaps hinting that he wants to continue his playing career.
“I would like to thank the Mexican people for their kindness and generosity and making me and my family feel so welcome in Mexico City,” wrote Ramsey. "I also want to give a big thanks to the manager, the coaching staff and particularly the medical staff for helping me through what was a difficult time with injuries.

"However with their help and a lot of hard work I was ready and match fit for the remaining games and I was looking forward to giving my best to the Pumas. Unfortunately my contract was terminated which was a surprise and obviously disappointing. Therefore I had no choice but to come home to Wales.
“Thank you again for all the support through the time we spent in Mexico. It’s a beautiful place and we will definitely come back to visit soon."
