It has been over years since Rangers confirmed the appointment of former Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard as their new manager, all the way back in 2018. But could he be set to make a sensational return to Ibrox?
The last Gers boss to win the Scottish Premiership trophy in Govan has emerged as one of the leading contenders to be the next Rangers boss following the sacking of Russell Martin on Sunday evening.
His stint in charge of Rangers largely successful, Gerrard’s first summer transfer window saw him recruit the likes of Ryan Kent, Borna Barisic and, perhaps less memorably, George Edmundson. In total, there were 42 players who came through the doors at Ibrox during his reign - but who offered Rangers the most?
Here we rank all 42 Rangers players signed by Gerrard from worst to best and ask - where are they now?

21. Jon McLaughlin
While he often performed well when called upon, his Rangers career will mostly likely be remembered for a calamitous performance in a 4-0 defeat to Celtic. In truth, he was a capable understudy - no more, no less. 22. Cedric Itten
The big Swiss centre forward struggled for game time but will be best remembered for a vital goal in a 3-1 comeback win over Motherwell in December 2020, which proved pivotal to Rangers title win that year. Still just 28, Itten scored 37 goals for Young Boys over a three year period, before signing for Fortuna Düsseldorf in the summer. | Getty Images Photo: Getty Images

23. George Edmundson
Affectionally known as 'The Fridge', Edmundson enjoyed a bright start to his Rangers career but fell out of favour when suspended by Rangers, following an internal investigation, for attending a party and breaking coronavirus regulations. The 28-year-old has found success since leaving Glasgow though, winning back-to-back promotions with Ipswich Town before joining Middlesbrough last season, where he features regularly. | Mark Runnacles Photo: Mark Runnacles

24. Kyle Lafferty
Was handed a second chance at Ibrox after being signed by Gerrard following a stint with Hearts. Lafferty scored two goals on his second Rangers debut but failed to secure a regular starting nerth and departed the club just over a year after his arrival. He found form at Kilmarnock in 2021 but now plays for Scottish seventh tier club Johnstone Burgh. | Getty Images Photo: Getty Images
