It has been over years since Rangers confirmed the appointment of former Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard as their new manager, all the way back in 2018. But could he be set to make a sensational return to Ibrox?
The last Gers boss to win the Scottish Premiership trophy in Govan has emerged as one of the leading contenders to be the next Rangers boss following the sacking of Russell Martin on Sunday evening.
His stint in charge of Rangers largely successful, Gerrard’s first summer transfer window saw him recruit the likes of Ryan Kent, Borna Barisic and, perhaps less memorably, George Edmundson. In total, there were 42 players who came through the doors at Ibrox during his reign - but who offered Rangers the most?
Here we rank all 42 Rangers players signed by Gerrard from worst to best and ask - where are they now?

37. Ryan Kent
Another player that probably stayed at the club too long, Kent frustrated in the later stages of his spell at Ibrox. However, the ex-Liverpool man still produced some memorable moments during his five year spell at the club. He was awarded PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year in 2019 and was virtually unplayable in the 2022 Europa League run, where he was named in the UEFA Europa League Team of the Season. 38. Steven Davis
Returning to the club for a second spell, Davis enjoyed an Indian summer at Ibrox and was one of Gerrard's most important players during some of his most successful periods. Now retired, the well respected Northern Irishman had a temporary spell in charge of the club in 2023/24, and will be fondly remembered for an outstanding bicycle kick winner against Celtic during the club's invincible season. | Justin Setterfield Photo: Justin Setterfield

39. Scott Arfield
The term 'clutch' was made for the Canadian midfielder. A free transfer signing from Burnley, Arfield seemed to have a knack of scoring crucial goals for Rangers and is quite rightly regarded as a big fan favourite. Signed for MLS outfit Charlotte following his Ibrox departure, before returning to UK shores with Bolton Wanderers in 2024. Signed for Falkirk in January, and helped them gain promotion back to the Scottish Premiership. Is still part of John McGlynn's squad at the age of 36. | Ian MacNicol Photo: Ian MacNicol

40. Joe Aribo
Signed on a Bosman free from Charlton Athletic, the tricky midfielder provided Rangers fans with a memory that will be cherished forever when he put them into the lead against Frankfurt in the Europa League final before. He departed for Southampton in a £6million deal the following summer, where he has remained ever since. Another signing who brought quality, value and resale value to the club, Aribo was definitely one of Gerrard's best signings. | Getty Images Photo: Getty Images
