With the Scottish Premiership transfer window now open, the rumour mill has gone into overdrive at Rangers, with the club aiming to build a squad capable of challenging Celtic for the title next season.
The appointment of new head coach Russell Martin is expected to result in Rangers targeting players that can fit into his dynamic, high-pressing and possession based style of play, with Bournemouth full-back Max Aarons expected to arrive at Ibrox on a loan deal until the end of the campaign.
While many fans will be hoping for mainly permanent arrivals this summer, one area Rangers have found success of late is in the loan market. Vaclav Cerny proved to be an invaluable signing last year, scoring 18-goals following his arrival for Bundesliga side Wolfsburg, while Brighton’s Abdallah Sima had a similar impact the season previous.
Here, The Scotsman look at 10 players who Rangers could target this summer on loan deals.

5. Ross Stewart - Southampton
Has been strongly linked with Rangers in the past, prior to his £8million move to Southampton. However, the 6ft 5in Scotland international has endured a nightmare spell with injuries in the last couple of years. Thank fully, Stewart is on the mend having featured in the final eight games of the season for the Saints. It was Russell Martin who brought him to Southampton in the first place, and remains a big fan of Stewart. His Premier League level wages, combined with his recent injury issues, would make him an ideal loan signing if he doesn't fit the plans of new Southampton head coach Will Still. | Getty Images Photo: Getty Images

6. Joe Gelhardt - Leeds United
Registered five goals in 20 appearances on loan at Hull City last season after joining the club from Leeds United but faces an uncertain summer at Elland Road following the club's promotion to the English Premier League. Linked to Rangers last January, he has just one year left on his contract at Leeds. 7. Josh Acheampong - Chelsea
A regular in Chelsea's Conference League starting XI, the 19-year-old featured just four times for the Blues in the English Premier League. He signed a new long-term deal at the club last year, so will not be leaving Stamford Bridge permanently any time soon, though Chelsea could be open to a loan move in order to get him more regular first team football. Capable of playing at right-back, or on the right-hand side of a back three, Acheampong would offer versatility to Rangers in a position that requires strengthening. | Getty Images Photo: Getty Images

8. Niklas Niehoff - Holstein Kiel
According to a recent reports, the 20-year-old forward has caught the eye of Rangers after impressing on loan at VfL Osnabrück last season. With Holstein Kiel potentially open to loan deals for their young star once again this summer, Niehoff could be available. While his limited first-team exposure in the Bundesliga makes a loan to Rangers an attractive opportunity for his own development, it could also prove to be a deterrent for Rangers as they seek more experienced options. | Getty Images Photo: Getty Images
