The Scottish Premiership window is now slammed shut until the new year after a hectic summer transfer window at Rangers under new manager Derek McInnes.
A total of 14 new players arrived following McInnes’ appointment in the summer, with Lawrence Shankland, Dan Neil and Olwethu Makhanya headlining a major overhaul of Rangers’ squad.
Back-to-back wins over Celtic have reinvigorated the Rangers support after an extremely tough start to the season, and supporters are now hoping they can finally dethrone their fierce Glasgow rivals come the end of the campaign in May.
While the window is closed, the free agent market could still play a part for many other Scottish Premiership clubs before January, with several players still available on free transfers. But how many free agents are Rangers stars of the past?
Here are 10 former Rangers players available for free and searching for new clubs this season.

9. John Fleck
Now 35, the former Rangers youngster left Ibrox over 14 years ago and went on to have promotion success with Coventry City and Sheffield United across the border. Fleck had a short stint with Blackburn Rovers before joining Chesterfield Town in the summer of 2024. However, during the pre-match warm-up in a game vs Doncaster Rovers, he collapsed, delaying kick-off by 10 minutes as emergency services surrounded him. He made a full recovery, but the health issues naturally impacted his availability and momentum at the club before he was released in the summer. The experienced playmaker is currently a free agent. | SNS Group 0141 221 3602

10. Kemar Roofe
A big-money signing from Anderlecht in 2020, the Jamaican international became a fan favourite after scoring over 40 goals in his first two seasons at Ibrox. Sadly, persistent injury struggles brought his time at the club to a sad end in the summer of 2024, before he signed a short-term contract with Derby County six months later. He made just three appearances for the Rams before being released. The following November, he signed for his hometown club Walsall on a short-term deal. However, he suffered a groin injury early in his time at the Bescot Stadium. Following treatment and the expiration of his agreement, his departure was confirmed in February 2026. | SNS Group
