Scotland handed major injury boost ahead of Morocco World Cup match

Centre-half McKenna now in contention to face Moroccans

Scotland have been given an injury boost ahead of Friday night’s World Cup clash with Morocco after defender Scott McKenna returned to training.

Centre-back McKenna missed the 1-0 Group C win over Haiti on Saturday with a calf injury which has curtailed his preparations.

However, boss Steve Clarke now has a full complement of players for their second group game at the Boston stadium.

McKenna was pictured back in full training with his fellow Scotland teammates on Tuesday at the team’s basecamp in Charlotte.

Scotland played with a back-four during the 1-0 win over Haiti over the weekend, but could switch to a three-man defence for the clash with the Moroccans.

With Morocco and Brazil drawing 1-1 in their group opener, the Scots are top of the table with three points as they look to qualify for the knockout stages for the first time.

After taking on Morocco, Scotland – who are in the World Cup for the first time since 1998 – fly to Miami for their final Group C fixture against the Brazilians on June 24.
