Scotland fans hailed by Boston Red Sox president as Tartan Army thanked for delivering 'pure joy'

The Tartan Army have left a lasting impression on the Major League Baseball side

Scotland’s travelling army of fans have been thanked for bringing “energy, passion, and pure joy” to the city of Boston and told they’ll always have a home at Fenway Park by Boston Red Sox president, Sam Kennedy.

Over 5,000 members of the Tartan Army opted to take in the Major League Baseball (MLB) games against the Texas Rangers and the Toronto Blue Jays over the last week, following the World Cup games vs Haiti and Morocco, with the kilt-clad fans marching to the game, led by traditional bagpipers and drummers.

The iconic American baseball stadium was treated to Scotland-based sing-alongs, bagpipes and dancing in the stands, with the scenes going viral on social media and leaving the local spectators, pundits and Red Sox players singing the praises of the Tartan Army.

With Scotland fans now set to depart Boston and relocate to Miami, Florida, for their final World Cup Group C game against Brazil on Wednesday, the president of the Red Sox has issued a statement via the Scottish FA, thanking them for their support of the team, assuring them they are welcome to return whenever they please.

“To the Scottish Football Association and the Tartan Army,” it read. “On behalf of the Boston Red Sox and the city of Boston, I want to extend our heartfelt gratitude for choosing Fenway Park and our city as your home away from home during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

“The energy, passion, and pure joy that the Tartan Army brought to our streets, our pubs, and our historic ballpark will never be forgotten. You did not just visit Boston; you became a part of it. Your songs echoed through our neighbourhoods, your warmth touched everyone you met, and your spirit captured the true essence of what sports are meant to be. The Tartan Army treated our home like their own, and we are better for it.

“As you continue your journey through the tournament, please know that you leave behind a city full of new friends who will be cheering you on. Boston will always have a place for the Tartan Army, and our doors will always be open to you. Thank you for the memories, the camaraderie, and for filling our city with your beautiful culture. Best of luck in the rest of the World Cup. Slainte mhath.”

While Scotland will take on Brazil this coming Wednesday (11pm BST), they could see a return to Boston in the coming days if they make it to the last 32 of the competition, with a potential knockout clash against Germany possible, depending on results elsewhere.
