Scotland’s squad for the World Cup in the summer included no less than four players currently playing for clubs in the Italian top flight, with Scott McTominay, Lewis Ferguson and Che Adams headlining a list of names currently making their mark in Serie A.
However, while the aforementioned trio have become the poster boys for ‘Scots Abroad’, they aren’t the only ones to have opted to take their careers to Italy, with a host of others currently plying their trade for various clubs in the Mediterranean country.
With players currently playing in Italy, Denmark, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Croatia, and Czechia, there’s no doubt Scotland are represented the world over.
Here we look at the nine Scottish players currently playing in Serie A and Serie B, and assess how they've done for their Italian teams in the opening months of the season. Who has enjoyed a successful start to the campaign - and who needs to improve in the months ahead?

5. Josh Doig - Sassuolo
The former Hibs academy player is now in his fifth season in Italian football, having first joined Hellas Verona in the summer of 2022. Now with Sassuolo, he started all seven of the club's league games this term, and scored his first goal of the season when he opened the scoring in a 2-2 draw with Bologna last month. His side have had an inconsistent start to the new campaign and sit in 13th place after winning two, drawing two and losing three games so far this term. | Getty Images

6. Nathan Patterson - Torino (loan)
The former Rangers academy star struggled to get into the Everton first team last season and made a loan move to Torino ahead of the deadline this summer. Patterson came on for his debut as a second-half substitute against Fiorentina in early September, and played a full 45 minutes against Bologna a few weeks later. However, he hasn't played a single minute since, with Algerian wing-back Rafik Belghali currently ahead of him in the pecking order. | Getty Images

7. Lewis Ferguson - Bologna
Despite being removed as Bologna's captain by new head coach Domenico Tedesco in the summer, Ferguson has been an ever-present for the Rossoblu at the base of midfield this season. The ex-Aberdeen man has one of the best passing success rates in the division, with a success rate of 93.2 per cent. However, Ferguson's side have endured an extremely difficult start to the new Serie A campaign. Winning just one of their opening seven games, they are just a point off the relegation spots. | Getty Images

8. Billy Gilmour - Napoli
The diminutive midfielder missed the World Cup in the summer due to a knee injury, but returned to fitness with Napoli early last month. Gilmour has started five of the seven games he's been available for this season, and scored his first goal of the season in a 1-1 draw with Fiorentina in September. He's seen plenty of the ball, too, having taken more touches than 94 per cent of other midfielders in the Serie A this term. | AFP via Getty Images
