How Robbie Ure fared on first La Liga start as Sevilla explain what Scottish striker is 'really suffering' with

Former Rangers youth continues dream start in Spain despite tough adaption

Robbie Ure earned his first start for Sevilla in La Liga on Saturday and played the full 90 minutes in a 3-1 victory at Athletic Bilbao.

Ths Scottish striker made his debut for Los Rojiblancos the previous weekend, coming off the bench to win a stoppage time penalty which secured a 2-1 victory over Rayo Vallecano, just days after completing a £7.6million move from Sirius in Sweden.

The 22-year-old was rewarded with a place in Luis García Plaza's starting line-up for the trip to the San Mamés Stadium and once again made a telling contribution towards a positive result.

Ure was heavily involved as Bilbao were reduced to 10 men after 11 minutes, forcing a mistake from the home defence which led to Yuri Berchiche being shown a straight red card for a last man foul on Miguel Sierra.

The former Rangers youth then created Sevilla's opener just four minutes later as he chased down a passback to goalkeeper Unai Simon, forcing the Spain number one into a rushed clearance which fell straight to Oso, who rolled the ball into the empty net.

Ure did not get on the scoresheet himself but his physical presence helped stretch Bilbao's defence with further goals from Chidera Ejuke and Isaac Romero putting Sevilla 3-1 up before Aitor Paredes grabbed a consolation for the hosts.

Sevilla manager García Plaza noted post-match that Ure put in a heavy shift but is still adapting to the high playing temperatures in Spain after spending the past 18 months in Scandinavia.

"Robbie Ure was exhausted, but we couldn't substitute him," he said. "He was really suffering from the heat. I'm not joking. In training the other day he was saying to me, 'this heat is crazy!' I mean, he's just come from Sweden and he is not used to playing in these high temperatures.

"He is a young lad who has just come into the team and he will need time to adapt. But he will. This is a long season and he has contributed to us gaining six points out of six from the opening two matches."

Ure is tipped to earn a first senior Scotland call-up next month when new head coach Sebastien Pocognoli names his maiden squad for the Nations League fixtures against Slovenia and Switzerland.

Meanwhile, Scott McTominay played the full 90 minutes as Napoli began life under new head coach Massimiliano Allegriwith a 2-0 win at Genoa. Late goals from Kevin de Bruyne (82) and Antonio Vergara (87) secured three points for Antonio Conte's successor in the opening match of the new Serie A season. McTominay's fellow Scotland midfielder Billy Gilmour was unused substitute.
