With Scotland placed into pot 3, they will face a team from pot 1 (top seeds and hosts), pot 2 (mid-tier powers; could include another UEFA side), and pot 4 (lowest-ranked qualifiers; includes playoff winners).
For clarity, the teams in each pot are as follows:

It is important to note that in the group draw, the following rules apply:
- There will be no more than two UEFA teams per group (with 16 European qualifiers across 12 groups).
- There should be no more two teams from the same confederation (except UEFA and hosts).
- Playoff winners (six spots, including four European paths) will be assigned to Pot 4 post-March 2026 matches, potentially including sides like Italy, Turkey, or Ukraine.
When are Scotland’s World Cup fixtures announced?
For the first time in the history of the tournament, the venues, kick-off times and fixtures dates for all 104 matches won't be released on the same day as the draw, meaning Scotland fans won’t fully know the order of fixtures at the time of the draw.
With FIFA aiming to ensure the best locations are picked based based on the time zones, they have announced that details of the match schedule rollout for next year's World Cup will come a day later, with a live broadcast to take place 24 hours after Friday's draw via FIFA’s official YouTube page.
