Martin Boyle set for lucrative offers as 11-year association with Hibs nears conclusion
Australian unlikely to be short of suitors as deal at Easter Road enters final stages
Hibs striker Martin Boyle is expected to be targeted by a number of clubs across the globe as he enters the final few months of his deal at Easter Road.
Boyle, 32, is out of contract in the summer and his 11-year association with the club is poised to come to an end.
The Australian internationalist signed a one-season extension with Hibs at the end of last campaign after firing them to third-placed finish in the Premiership despite proposals from elsewhere. He has featured 36 times across all competitions this term, although his position as a first-team regular is not as cast-iron as it once was.
Boyle’s options grow ahead of probable Hibs exit
A-League sides such as Perth Glory have a long-standing admiration of Boyle, but there are also notes of interest from Asian and American outfits. The forward is set to play at this summer’s World Cup for Australia, with the Socceroos in Group D alongside hosts USA, Paraguay and a play-off winner from Europe.
Boyle considered moving to Australia two years ago before committing his future to Hibs. His only time outside of Scotland was when he spent a short spell in Saudi Arabia with Al-Faisaly in 2022 after making a lucrative move to the Middle East, but he returned to the capital seven months later.
Scottish Premiership rivals Aberdeen and Rangers have looked at signing Boyle in the past, but it is looking increasingly likely that the former Montrose and Dundee man will try his hand abroad again. He is one of the highest earners at Hibs, but could land one final big pay-day - far beyond what his current club would be prepared to offer - by moving to the MLS, Australia or one of the major leagues in Asia.
Hibs have been readying themselves for life after Boyle since last summer when they spent £1m on forward Thibault Klidje. The club-record signing has since gone on loan to Randers in Denmark, but is due to return in the summer. They also purchased two strikers in the winter transfer window - Owen Elding, a promising 19-year-old from Ireland, and Ante Suto, a Croat who may switch allegiances to Australia.
The last remaining member of the 2016 Scottish Cup-winning team in the current Hibs playing squad, Boyle would leave a modern-day legend after breaking through the 100-goal mark for the club earlier this season when he scored away at Partizan Belgrade in the Conference League. He currently sits on 108 strikes and could break into the top ten of Hibs' all-time goalscorers if he surpasses Arthur Duncan’s total of 114 before the season ends.
