Hearts have enjoyed a season to remember so far, having led at the top of the Scottish Premiership since September.
The club opted to strengthen their squad further by acquiring Rogers Mato, Jordi Altena, Islam Chesnokov, and Marc Leonard as they aim to keep themselves ahead of Rangers and Celtic, who are breathing down their neck just below them at the Scottish Premiership summit.
As it often does, the arrival of new faces meant that several players also departed during the January window, with the likes of Sander Kartum, Zander Clark, and James Wilson all leaving in the winter transfer window, while many others were already out on loan across different clubs.
Here we look at the 12 Hearts players who are currently on loan away from the club, and assess how they have done for their new teams this season. Who has impressed away from Tynecastle - and who is perhaps regretting their decision to leave?

5. Zander Clark - Doncaster Rovers
The Scotland international made the decision to leave Tynecastle on loan in January after dropping down the pecking order to third choice. He has played regularly for the EFL League One side, who are hoping to avoid relegation, and kept two clean sheets in his four games. | SNS Group

6. Kenneth Vargas - LD Alajuelense
Spent the first half of the season back in his homeland of Costa Rica with Club Sport Herediano, where he scored one goal in seven games. Returned in the new year, but was immediately shipped out on loan again, signing a year-long loan with LD Alajuelense. Started just one of the club's opening three games of the season, and is yet to find the target for his new employers. | SNS Group

7. Liam McFarlane - Alloa Athletic
One of the highest-rated young goalkeepers in the country, the 21-year-old stopper was invited to train with the Scotland senior side in October after impressing in the youth sides. A regular at Alloa since his loan move there in the summer, he has kept six clean sheets in 18 appearances, with the club currently fourth in League One. | SNS Group

8. Yan Dhanda - Dundee
After an underwhelming debut season at Tynecastle, the former Swansea City star was allowed to move on a season-long loan to Dens Park. He's featured prominently for Steven Pressley's side, starting 17 league games and scoring twice. | SNS Group
