Hearts set to break £1 million transfer barrier as three players close in on deals
Fagan-Walcott bid accepted as Jam Tarts make early hay with recruitment
Hearts’ summer transfer plans continue apace after confirming the arrival of Falkirk winger Calvin Miller and agreeing a deal for York City defender Malachi Fagan-Walcott.
Miller completed his move to Tynecastle on Thursday morning for a fee in the region of £400,000, while The Scotsman understands that Hearts officials have now met the £700,000 valuation placed on Fagan-Walcott by York City. He is now finalising personal terms and is set to undergo a medical in the coming days.
Hearts officials are keen to conduct their transfer business swiftly and the arrival of Miller, 28, comes on the back of St Johnstone winger Josh McPake and Lincoln centre-half MJ Kamson-Kamara also pitching up in Gorgie on free transfers.

In addition to Fagan-Walcott, Hearts are close to concluding deals for two French players. Versailles midfielder Tom Renaud has agreed a pre-contract agreement with the club and Rouen striker Amadou Ba-Sy, who also plays in France’s third tier, is close to a move as Hearts negotiate a low six-figure fee with the National outfit.
Hearts are set to break through the £1 million barrier for transfers by mid-June and plan for more arrivals after being pipped to the Premiership title by Celtic on the final day of last season.
Centre-half is a priority position after Craig Halkett suffered a long-term Achilles injury and Frankie Kent departed on a free. Hearts have admired Fagan-Walcott for some time and make their move at the end of last month.
Miller, meanwhile, strengthens head coach Derek McInnes’ options out wide. The former Morton player was a stand-out for Falkirk last season and said that the lure of European football made the switch to Hearts so attractive.
“I'm buzzing,” said Miller. “It's been in a pipeline for a while, so I'm just glad that I'm finally here and getting the deal all signed. First of all, Hearts are a massive club and I think you've seen what they've done last season. Straight away, everyone wants to be a part of that.
“When I heard the interest was there, I was dying to make the move happen. They are playing in Europe this year as well, so I'd love to get myself in amongst that. I'm thankful to Falkirk because they essentially got my career back on track. The gaffer there, they helped me through thick and thin and every season was a success, so I'm hoping to just continue that success, that kind of form that I had at Falkirk and getting all the goals and assists and some even silverware.
“I just want to continue that form and keep progressing and now that this club's in Europe it would be unbelievable if I could go and chip in, doing that in the bigger stage.
“Who doesn't want to play in Europe? You get a chance in the Champions League qualifiers to then go and progress and then if not then it's Europa League and that's a big stage. That's where you can go and make a name for yourself and the club can go and make a name for itself as well and I'm just dying to get started.”
