There is no better opportunity for youngsters breaking through at Scottish clubs than the coming 2020/21 season. And, equally, there is no better opportunity for clubs to switch their focus to developing academy talents.
This coming campaign will see clubs operating with tighter than normal budgets and smaller squads as they feel the impact of the coronavirus pandemic. Behind closed door games mean a lack of gate receipt and smaller revenues. But on the positive side, it should create a space for young talents to get more game time, earn experience and even make a name for themselves.
Click and scroll through to see some of the SPFL talents who are either set to shine or could be given the opportunity to shine.

9. Chris Hamilton (Hearts)
One of Cowdenbeath’s best players in League Two during his loan. Not the tallest for a centre-back but very aggressive. With John Souttar recovering from injury he could challenge Christophe Berra for a place alongside Craig Halkett. Photo: SNS Group Ross Parker

10. Fraser Murray (Hibs)
Could this be the season Fraser Murray finally gets a regular spot in the team to showcase his talents? His progress has been slightly slower than that of friend and team-mate Ryan Porteous. He is versatile but technically very good. Photo: Craig Foy - SNS Group

11. Josh Doig (Hibs)
The defender was on loan at Queen’s Park to gain first-team experience. He is a highly impressive youngster. Strong, combative and a decent turn of pace. Could put pressure on Lewis Stevenson at left-back and is able to play in the centre. Photo: Craig Foy - SNS Group

12. Cameron Harper (Inverness CT)
It was announced by the club that Scottish Cup-winning legend Carl Tremarco would be departing this summer. It opens up a potential route into the first-team. Harper has played for the Highlanders before and had a loan spell at Elgin cut short in January due to the sale of Coll Donaldson to Ross County. Photo: Ross MacDonald - SNS Group
