There is no better opportunity for youngsters breaking through at Scottish clubs than the coming 2020/21 season. And, equally, there is no better opportunity for clubs to switch their focus to developing academy talents.
This coming campaign will see clubs operating with tighter than normal budgets and smaller squads as they feel the impact of the coronavirus pandemic. Behind closed door games mean a lack of gate receipt and smaller revenues. But on the positive side, it should create a space for young talents to get more game time, earn experience and even make a name for themselves.

5. Josh Mulligan (Dundee)
At 17, Finlay Robertson has already made his mark at first-team level. Sharing the same birthday as the midfielder is winger Mulligan. The Dens Park side are not blessed with too much attacking threat from wide. It could present an opportunity for Mulligan who had a stint on loan at Cove Rangers last season. 6. Declan Glass (Dundee United)
The 20-year-old had a notable breakthrough season. Seven goals in 18 appearances, plus countless assists, in the first half of the campaign for Cove Rangers saw him return to parent club Dundee United, featuring a handful of times in 2020. Making the step up, there should be game time for him in the Premiership. Photo: Rob Casey - SNS Group

7. Andy Winter (Hamilton)
Lewis Smith and Jamie Hamilton were the two most notable starlets to make their mark at Accies last season. Winter was also involved after impressing in the Uefa Youth League but the 2020/21 campaign could be the one where he makes the next step in his career. Photo: Craig Williamson - SNS Group

8. Anthony McDonald (Hearts)
The attacker impressed for Hearts in the Betfred Cup group stages, although Craig Levein implored the youngster to improve his defensive responsibility. A loan spell at Dunfermline Athletic wasn’t fruitful but he could provide plenty of creativity and some goals for Hearts in the Championship. Photo: SNS Group Paul Devlin
