29-goal former Celtic man dealt hammer injury blow just weeks after dream derby day strike
The ex-Celtic striker has been hit with a cruel injury blow at his new club
Former Celtic striker Adam Idah is facing a race against time to be fit for the end of the season, just weeks after scoring a dream derby winner for his new club, Swansea City.
The 24-year-old departed the Scottish Premiership champions in a deal thought to be worth around £6.5million, leaving the club little over a year after making a permanent switch to Parkhead, with former head coach Brendan Rodgers adding Kelechi Iheanacho to his squad two days later as a replacement for Idah’s.
Originally joining the club on a six-month loan deal from Norwich City in January 2024, the Cork-born forward had an explosive start to his Celtic career, scoring 10 goals in all competitions, including a memorable last-minute winner in a 1-0 Scottish Cup final win over Rangers. The club paid a reported fee of £9.5million the following summer to make the move permanent. However, Idah never fully recaptured his prolific form from the previous season, leaving the club having scored 29 goals in all competitions.

Upon signing for the Swans in September, recently sacked head coach Alan Sheehan said: “Adam has a wealth of senior experience, including at the highest level of European club competition, and we expect him to make a considerable impact for Swansea City.” However, he struggled for regular game time in the opening half of the season in the EFL Championship, with the Welsh outfit languishing in the bottom half of the table.
With Sheehan sacked as manager of Swansea in November, though, Idah began to feature more prominently, capped off some impressive substitute cameos by notching an injury-time winner in a 2-1 derby win over Wrexham on December 21. In line to start the club’s Boxing Day fixture against Coventry City shortly afterward, the Irishman suffered a hamstring injury in training before the game, and it has now been confirmed that he could be missing until April with the issue.
Confirming the news of the injury blow, Swansea’s new head coach Vitor Matos said: “It's less [of a] worry than we thought which is good, but still it will be around three months, two months and a half, out. Let's see." The news could benefit highly-rated former Kilmarnock teenager Bobby Wales, who moved across the border in the summer, with the 20-year-old making three appearances of the bench over the festive period.
