'Ready to go': Promising Glasgow Warriors 21y/o tipped to make first-team impact
Weir ready to help stand-off in any way he can
Former Scotland fly-half Duncan Weir believes Matthew Urwin is ready to become a starter in that role for Glasgow Warriors.
The Scotstoun side have lost two senior No 10s in recent months with Weir retiring to become an academy coach, while Adam Hastings left to sign for Montpellier.
Dan Lancaster and Charlie Savala, who missed all of last season due to injury, are the only frontline stand-offs at the club heading into the new campaign.

Urwin starts in that role as a youthful Glasgow side take on Bath in a Friday night friendly and Weir is backing the 21-year-old to establish himself as a first-team presence in the months ahead.
He said: “From when he first came in to where he is now, his rugby IQ and the way he reads the game have improved massively. And I think that's just down to his three years in the academy and all the hard work and all the under-20s exposure that he's had throughout the years.
“It’s led him to a point where he can now read the game really well for such a young player, which is amazing. I think he's got a really bright future ahead of him and I'm really looking forward to seeing him grasp as many opportunities as he can.
“Now that he's come of age and he's signed his first pro contract, I think that will really give him confidence in himself. If I can support him in any way, I'd be more than delighted to do that.
“I'm more than comfortable saying that he is ready to go and live at this level. I definitely believe that and I wouldn't be saying it otherwise.”
Most of Glasgow’s Scotland internationals have been omitted from the friendly match with Bath at Old Anniesland and Weir hopes the callow group selected will savour the spotlight.
“They're all desperate to play well, there's no doubt about that,” he added. “We've been doing some goal-setting. And the first goal for all of them is a non-negotiable one which is just to enjoy it and take their opportunity when it comes.”
