Hollywood star Karen Gillan has been spotted in Scotland amid speculation that the remake of 1986 cult classic Highlander is filming in the Highlands.

Hollywood star Karen Gillan has been spotted in Scotland, appearing to confirm rumours that the upcoming Highlander reboot has started filming in the country.

The Inverness-born actress is set to star alongside Henry Cavill in the Amazon MGM film, which began production in January following a number of delays.

Gillan stopped by the Green Welly Stop in Tyndrum, along the A82, on Sunday, posing for a picture with staff.

Though unconfirmed, her appearance adds to the growing evidence that the film shoot has arrived in Scotland.

Several car parks in the Highland Council area are due to be closed in the coming days, while Eilean Donan Castle – which appears prominently in the original 1986 Highlander – will be shut to the public until Thursday, April 16.

It has long been speculated that filming for the reboot of the 80s cult classic will take place in Scotland, following comments made by director Chad Stahelski back in 2024.

Here are all of the rumoured Scottish filming locations for the Highlander reboot with Henry Cavill.

What we know about Highlander reboot filming locations so far

While still unconfirmed, here are some of the more likely spots for the film production in Scotland.

Eilean Donan Castle

Following in the footsteps of the 1986 film, the remake of Highlander is expected to shoot at Eilean Donan Castle between Sunday, April 12 and Thursday, April 16.

The entire site including the castle and visitor centre will be closed for access across those dates, with the live webcam streams of the castle currently offline.

Isle of Skye

Filming is also due to take place on the Isle of Skye, specifically around Trotternish. Affected locations include those around Kilt Rock and Mealt Falls, the Old Man of Storr, Bride’s Veil Falls and the Quiraing.

Specifically, it appears as though the car parks for these locations have been earmarked for film crews.

A spokesperson for the Highland Council told The Scotsman: “We can’t share details of specific upcoming projects due to confidentiality, but we can confirm that the following car parks will be closed on the dates listed below and visitors should avoid these locations during those times.”

  • Kilt Rock and Mealt Falls Car Park: Wednesday, April 15 to Friday, April 17
  • Quiraing Car Park: Thursday, April 16 to Friday, April 17
  • Storr Car Park: Thursday, April 16 to Friday, April 17

Meanwhile, Bride’s Veil car park is said to be completely closed until Tuesday, April 21.

Glen Affric

Crews for Highlander also appear to have taken over parts of Glen Affric, such as Morvich in Kintail.

One local campsite appears to have become a production hub and is booked out until the beginning of May, while some hillwalkers report huge amounts of infrastructure such as a large stone fireplace - presumably set pieces - on location.

Glencoe

Finally, Glencoe is another location which is expected to be used for the upcoming Highlander reboot.

Last year, a casting call was issued looking for extras who lived within reasonable driving distance of Glen Coe to appear in a “major feature” shooting across the Highlands from April. The notice was pushed back around the same time that Henry Cavill was injured while training for the film.

In addition, in a post on Facebook, Glencoe Mountain Resort informed visitors that they would be unable to host campervans overnight from Thursday, April 23 to Wednesday, April 29 “due to a film crew using our overflow car park as a base”.

They noted that their accommodation, cafe, chairlift and activities will be open as normal.
