‘Unfussy’ Scottish restaurant added to Michelin Guide for 2026

The Michelin inspectors have revealed the latest additions to the Guide, and only one Scottish restaurant has made the cut.

The team behind the Michelin Guide for the UK and Ireland have announced the latest additions to the 2026 guide, and there’s just one in Scotland for the month of April.

Every month the inspectors reveal the restaurants that have caught their attention and are worthy of inclusion in the Michelin Guide.

While new Stars and Bib Gourmands were announced in February at a ceremony in Dublin, these additions to the 2026 Guide are from the inspectors who are on the road all year round, eating their way around some of the country’s best restaurants.

The only Scottish addition is Lucky Yu, which opened on Broughton Street in Edinburgh in 2023 after moving from Brunstfield. From the team behind taqueria, Bodega, Lucky Yu serves Asian-inspired small plates by ex Gardener’s Cottage chef Duncan Adamson.

The menu has a range of specialty dumplings, homemade baos and yakitori alongside a range of curated cocktails and natural wines.

The Michelin inspectors said of Lucky Yu: “Follow the neon and you’ll soon find yourself in this buzzing little bistro serving a variety of Asian-inspired sharing plates.

“Grab a cocktail and take a seat in the window or perhaps up at the counter, then try hard not to order everything on the menu. From the fried chicken karaage to the signature ‘Dirty Rice’, this is unfussy food piled high with flavour.

“As difficult as it may be to stop ordering, try to save room for the playful apple pie gyozas to finish. The chatty and attentive service is the final piece of a very enjoyable picture.”

Posting about being added to the Michelin Guide, the team wrote: “Lucky Yu is in the 2026 Michelin guide. We genuinely cannot believe it. Thank you to every single person who has walked through our door, ordered the dirty rice (good choice), and come back again.

“Thank you to our incredible team and suppliers - the ones who make this place what it is and something worth being proud of.”

Ahead of the restaurant opening: John Howard, owner of Lucky Yu said: “We’ll be serving up the likes of BBQ aubergine yakitori; steamed cockles with sake, seaweed and mirin butter sauce; and whole crispy mackerel with garlic, chilli and kaffir lime soy sauce.

“We have put in the same amount of focus into our drinks menu making sure they perfectly complement the food. Cocktails will start at £8.50 and will include Kyoto which features yuzu sake, lychee cordial, bodegas sumarroca cava brut, and Soul Thai with el sueno tequila, acid adjusted pink grapefruit, thai chilli and topped with soda.”

The restaurant is co-owned and was designed by Meredith Wilkie who added “I’ve taken as my design inspiration wabi-sabi meets neon Tokyo; like if ancient Japanese artistry and urban neon glamour had a love child.

“The space is designed to be immersive, to hopefully transport the customer to another place - making for a real experience, not just a delicious meal - without being a theme restaurant. The style is clean and sharp, but also weathered and sexy - when the lights are low and the pink neon comes into its own, the place has an intimate, seductive vibe.

“With a total of 80 covers, we have a mixture of banquette and traditional seating available and a low dining counter at the bar. Two to three areas will be bookable for groups with spaces suitable for smaller groups of six or larger groups of up to 30.”
