While some have closed their doors as they face growing energy bills and economic pressures, others have closed their business to start new adventures.
Here are eight Edinburgh businesses that have closed their premises in 2026.

1. Charwood - January
Charwood in Buckstone Terrace closed on January 24 after almost 12 years of operation. At the time of the announcement, the owners gave no reason for the closure of the beloved restaurant. They said in a statement: "Thank you to all of our customers, staff and suppliers for supporting our local family business and making Charwood such a special part of the community. We have shared so many memories with you and we will be forever grateful." | Google Maps

2. Maison Bleue - January
Maison Bleue, located on Edinburgh's Victoria Street, closed on January 11 after 28 years in business. The decision to close the venue - famed for its distinctive blend of French, Scottish and North African cuisine - was driven primarily by the retirement of owner Dean Gassabi after 31 years in the hospitality business. Mr Gassabi said: “We are overwhelmed with gratitude for the loyalty the people of Edinburgh have shown us, particularly through challenging times like Brexit and the pandemic. This restaurant has been our blood, sweat and tears for nearly three decades, and we’ve been honoured to mark countless special moments with our patrons, from first dates and engagements to family weddings. That commitment from our customers is a treasure that will never be lost on us.” | Maison Bleue

3. Bald Baker - January
In January, Bald Baker in Edinburgh announced they were closing their Slateford Road shop front. They have transitioned to an online-only model for cakes, traybakes, and catering. The decision was driven by owner Scott Parker's need for better work-life balance and high shop operating costs. Photo: Third Party

4. Superdry - February
Superdry in the St James Quarter suddenly closed in early February. This closure was part of broader restructuring, despite the brand later planning to open new, revamped stores in other locations. Photo: .
