Scotland Weather: New yellow warning for snow and 'blizzard conditions' issued by Met Office
Further travel disruption is expected just one week after Storm Chandra battered the UK.
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for snow across parts of northern and eastern Scotland on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The yellow alert will come into force at 12am on Tuesday and run till 3pm on Wednesday.
Forecasters have warned sleet and snow is likely to cause travel disruption - while northern areas could see “blizzard conditions” and snow drifts due to strong winds.
What areas are covered?
The yellow weather alert applies to the following areas:
- Angus
- Clackmannanshire
- Dundee
- Fife
- Perth and Kinross
- Stirling
- Aberdeen
- Aberdeenshire
- Moray
- Orkney Islands
- Argyll and Bute
A separate yellow weather warning for snow is in place across the Shetland Islands. It runs from 6pm on Tuesday until 11.59pm on Wednesday.
What can I expect?
A Met Office said: “Rain feeding into eastern and northern Scotland will increasingly fall as sleet and then snow through Tuesday and into Wednesday.

“By Wednesday accumulations of 1-3 cm are expected above 100 metres, with perhaps up to 5 cm in some places.
“For ground above 200 metres, accumulations of 10 cm are expected with some places locally seeing up to 20 cm.
“At low levels precipitation will be a mix of rain, sleet and snow which could lead to some small snow accumulations in places.
“Strong winds at times will lead to blizzard conditions and drifting of lying snow, especially in the north of the warning area.”
Is disruption likely?
The Met Office said roads and railways are “likely” to be affected, and told passengers to expect longer journeys on buses and trains.
It warned of hazardous road conditions as a result of the wintry weather, and urged drivers to check routes before travelling.
The weather alert comes just days after Storm Chandra battered the UK, with heavy rain and strong winds causing widespread disruption.
Glen Ample in Stirlingshire recorded 66.6 mm of rain - while new January records for daily rainfall were set in the south of England.
Several roads in Scotland were closed due to snowfall and flooding, while a number of train routes were blocked to due to fallen trees.
