Watch spectacular moment C-17 Globemaster and Typhoon jets soar over Edinburgh in first flypast of 2026 Tattoo

A C-17 Globemaster and two Typhoon jets soared over Edinburgh on Saturday for the first flypast of this year’s Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo.

Brilliant videos show the first of five flypasts at the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo on Saturday (15 August).

A C-17 Globemaster and two Typhoon jets soared past the Tattoo at Edinburgh Castle as spectators were seated for the 6.15pm performance.

The Globemaster and Typhoon jets replaced the Red Arrows who were forced to pull out of their Tattoo flypast, as well as Lyme Regis Lifeboat Week and Airbourne: Eastbourne International Airshow, due to their return from the United States being delayed by poor weather.

Wing Commander Sasha Nash, Officer Commanding RAF Aerobatic Team, said: “We are very sorry the Red Arrows cannot participate at these events and we are grateful to organisers and communities for their understanding.

“Every effort is being made to ensure the Red Arrows can recommence the busy display season as soon as possible. However, safety is the only factor that will determine the timing of the team’s return from Canada.”

Acts for the 2026 show - A Call to Gather - include The German Army Band Koblenz, New Zealand Army Band, the Qatar Police Academy Band and Drill Team, and the United States Army Field Band.

They are joined by military bands, with Royal Air Force Musicians taking centre stage as part of this year’s Lead Service, alongside fan favourites such as the Massed Pipes and Drums, Lone Piper and the Tattoo Performers showcasing the best of Scottish Traditional Arts.
