Now that Sir Keir Starmer has resigned as Prime Minister the race is on to find his successor.
Former Mayor of Manchester Andy Burnham is favourite to be the next inhabitant of 10 Downing Street, particularly since his closest rival, Wes Streeting, has indicated he will not stand in a leadership election.
It means that he may be the only candidate for the job and could take over as PM as early as the middle of March.
Whoever gets the job, there will be a pretty major cabinet reshuffle and it seems certain that Rachel Reeves, who has served as Chancellor of the Exchequer since Labour’s landslide election victory in 2024, will be handing over the keys to 11 Downing Street.
Here are the 10 leading candidates to succeed her - according to the bookies.

1. Wes Streeting - 1/2
Former Health Secretary Wes Streeting is the hot favourite to be the new Chancellor of the Exchequer, priced at 1/2. It was thought he'd go for the Prime Minister's job but, following the resignation of Keir Starmer, he's said he'll not enter any leadership contest. 2. Ed Miliband - 5/1
Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero Ed Miliband unexpectedly lost the 2015 General Election to David Cameron by 10 seats, effectively beginning the process of Brexit. It would continue one of the more remarkable political comebacks if he was able to take on the second top job under a new administration. He's a 5/1 shot to do so. | Getty Images

3. Yvette Cooper - 8/1
Yvette Cooper attempted to become Labour leader back in 2015 following the resignation of Ed Miliband, coming third to eventual winner Jeremy Corbyn. She's unlikely to try again against a seemingly-unbeatable Andy Burnham, but is 8/1 to become Chancellor instead. 4. Shabana Mahmood - 8/1
Current Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood has impressed since taking on her role last September. She's 8/1 to become the next Chancellor, with her odds probably only that long because he's indicated she'd like to stay in her current role. | Getty Images
