Whether you’re an Edinburgh resident or just visiting for the festivals, August is a great time to take in some of the best walks the Capital has to offer.
The city is blessed with a wonderful network of parks, trails, hills (famously there are seven of them) and nature reserves.
So, if the hustle and bustle is getting a bit too much for you, here are 12 walks you can enjoy, without a performer or juggler in sight.

9. Moredun Wood
Part of Burdiehouse Burn Valley Park, Moredun Wood is a city oasis surrounded by a high wall that serves to keep traffic noise out and wildlife safe. These are two main entrances - one on the corner of Ellen's Glen Road and Gilmerton Road, and the other beside the Morrisons supermarket. | Google Maps

10. Cammo Estate
Sitting on the edge of the Capital, the 85-acre Cammo Estate is a country park offering miles of pretty woodland walks, along with a picturesque tower and the atmospheric ruins of Cammo House. | Canva/Getty Images

11. River Almond
The walkway following the River Almond from Cramond Brig to Cramond village takes in a variety of woodland, including beech, oak and sycamore. It takes around two hours to complete. | Canva/Getty Images

12. Hermitage of Braid
Hermitage Of Braid is a wooded section of a large city nature reserve that also includes Blackford Hill. Originally the estate was the home of the de Brad family, though it was sold in the 18th century and has had a number of different owners since. In 1937, the estate was gifted to the city to be used as a public park. The pleasant woodland walk on well-kept paths passes ancient trees that date back to the early 19th century and the historic hermitage building itself. Keep a look out for a wealth of wildlife, including owls, shrews and bats. | Google Maps
