Whether you’re an Edinburgh resident or just visiting for the festivals, August is a great time to take in some of the best walks the Capital has to offer.
The city is blessed with a wonderful network of parks, trails, hills (famously there are seven of them) and nature reserves.
So, if the hustle and bustle is getting a bit too much for you, here are 12 walks you can enjoy, without a performer or juggler in sight.

5. The Meadows and Bruntsfield Links
The Meadows are within flyering distance of many of the Fringe's biggest venues - including the Udderbelly, Pleasance Dome, Assembly George Square and Summerhall. Enjoy walking up Middle Meadows Walk to the Marchmont area, then head west to Bruntsfield Link, one of the first places in the world where golf was played. 6. The Pentlands
There are a number of wonderful wooded walks in the Pentlands, on the outskirts of the city. One of the prettiest and easiest to find is a track around Harlaw Reservoir - just follow the squirrel signs. | Canva/Getty Images

7. Queen's Drive
If you can't cope with the thought of climbing up Arthur's Seat, you can always walk around it instead. Queen's Drive loops around Holyrood Park, offering views of the city as you make your way round. It is relatively flat and suitable for a wide range of ages and fitness levels. There are many adjoining paths to explore if you wish to shorten or lengthen your route. | Google Maps

8. Corstorphine Hill
Another of the seven hills of Edinburgh, Corstorphine Hill has a wealth of woodland walks and it one of the most wildlife-rich parts of the Capital. There's also the bonus of stunning views over the city's skyline. | Shutterstock
