Two Scottish restaurants added to Michelin Guide 2026 - including Highland destination with ‘stunning’ views
A Spanish inspired restaurant and a ‘casual fine dining’ eatery are the latest Scottish additions to the Michelin Guide.
The team behind the Michelin Guide for the UK and Ireland have announced the latest additions to the 2026 guide, and two are in Scotland.
Every month the inspectors reveal the restaurants that have caught their attention and are worthy of inclusion in the Michelin Guide.
While new Stars and Bib Gourmands were announced in February at a ceremony in Dublin, these additions to the 2026 Guide are from the inspectors who are on the road all year round, eating their way around some of the country’s best restaurants.
The Scottish additions to the March roundup are: Dogstar in Leith and The Whitehouse Restaurant in Lochaline, Oban.

Dogstar is the latest venture from chef James Murray- the former chef at Michelin starred - but now sadly closed - Edinburgh Food Studio. It opened to much anticipation, and rave reviews in late 2025 and has now caught the eye of the Michelin inspectors.
The inspectors had this to say about the Leith addition: “The new kid on the block in the continuously excellent Leith dining scene on the edge of Edinburgh, Dogstar comes from Chef James Murray, who previously forged a reputation at Timberyard.
“Now in his own restaurant, he has assembled a delightful service team to run this lively converted pub, where the dishes are best shared among friends and aim to spotlight the seasonal local larder, from game and seafood to various cuts of beef written on the mirror and priced by weight. A wallet-friendly wine list adds to the appeal.”
Speaking to The Scotsman ahead of its opening, Mr Murray said: “It’s a restaurant, not a pub or bar. So it’ll be food focused, but with a very informal service. Still super slick, but hands off, fun and relaxed and the kitchen will get involved with the service where needed. We’ll keep the bar and will have about eight seats there with an extended table to one side, with about 20 seats in the restaurant area. There will be an open kitchen.”
Of The Whitehouse, which is described as a casual fine dining restaurant, and is known for its stunning harbour views out to Mull, the inspectors said: “Located way out west in a picture-postcard location overlooking the Isle of Mull across the water, this comforting restaurant is unsurprisingly painted all in white.
“Inside, it’s a cute, cosy spot where yet more white-painted walls are enlivened by eye-catching prints and shelves of cookery books. The menu reflects the seasons and the area well, with plenty of fine Scottish produce leading the way, be it Tobermory trout or Highland lamb rump. For dessert, don’t overlook a soufflé if it’s on offer.”
