We’re a nation of cat lovers - with more than 10 million feline friends belonging to households across Britain.
When it comes to four-legged friends it’s usually dogs rather than cats that are thought of as being the most friendly, outgoing and loving pets.
Many people with little experience of cats wrongly believe they are solitary – even standoffish – animals, but our feline friends can be just as loving as their canine colleagues.
And with a number of cat breeds to choose from - according to The International Cat Association there are 73 ‘standardised breeds’ along with a bewildering number of crosses - some have a tendency to be more friendly than others.
These are the 13 breeds most likely to reciprocate your love and affection.

5. Persian
The Persian is a cat that is as cuddly as it looks - and that is 'very'. The bonus with these kitties is that they are incredibly lazy, so when they curl up on your lap they are probably there for the long run. Unfortunately, in common with other breeds with 'flat faces' they can suffer from Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome (BOAS) which results in breathing and feeding problems. | Canva/Getty Images

6. Siamese
"We are Siameeiz, if you pleeiz". The Siamese cats in Disney's 'Lady and the Tramp' may have been villians but this is no factual reflection on the breed. In fact they are known for their affectionate personalities and will often follow their owner around the house gazing at them with utter and complete adoration. | Canva/Getty Images

8. Tonkinese
As the portmanteaux name would suggest, the Tonkinese is a cross between the Siamese and Burmese. Breeders were aiming for a loving, affectionate and intelligent breed - and they succeeded! This breed won't just enjoy cuddles - it will DEMAND cuddles. | Canva/Getty Images
